Thank you for watching Serapio. I’m very proud of that clasp as it was only an idea in my head rather than something that I’ve done before and for practical reasons worked brilliantly. I will add this to my to-do list and make sure to press record the next time I have to make one.

Hi Jaco. I first recently began to watch your videos and i became most stunned by your careness and abiltiy to handle your tools with so much preciseness. I have just started to make a Line Bracelet in silver with 3.2 mm mixed colour sapphire for my wife. I hope that i will be able to control my breathing and make it as precise and beatiful, as you have done. I love your way of passing on your skills as goldsmith, with great advice accompanying the videos. Thank you so much for sharing. I hope that i will become better over time. Best regards Allan

Hi Jaco. Thanks for your kind words. Your way of handling your tools is almost japanese! They are so skilled and you never stop to educate yourself. I can see that you have the same paradigme, always trying to improve and find new methods to make things better and more beatiful. I have been collecting japanese swords and watching japanese sword smiths are amazing. Awesome work as usual Jaco, I like how calm you are with your voice and the work, your shop and tools look pristine (the way they should be). I also admire how you approach your work and don't cut any corners. The whole video was amazing, to the point, crisp with details, without gimmicky camera tricks or over the head background music, while at it, I love your original music, adds a bit more character and charm. Hey Jaco, just thought I'd throw this in, not trying to sound like a know it all but try using Nikko Polish for Platinum. When I was doing literally hundreds of machined bands we switched to it and man what a difference. We only used 1500 straight to 8000 but probably should have gone maybe 2500 first and green Dialux I personally preferred on Palladium only. Love any Vids you do as I'm always learning. Hi Jaco I have a sterling silver tennis bracelet with 0.5c diamonds & a lock clasp for safety on the side. Do I need an extra safety chain added to it? Can I do this at home? How would I go about it? Thanks for any advice 😃
@jacothejeweller
@jacothejeweller Жыл бұрын
Hi Carol, it certainly would add another safety mechanism to your bracelet. Usually the clasp and catch on the side would be enough but don’t deal with a pin that has worn through around the clasp area (which is where it often occurs). So to add a safety chain would be recommended for extra safety. You could buy a safety chain from a local jewellery supplier and with a pair of pliers you should be able to add this as the little o-rings are typically open. Just bend them sideways and close them again. If you have any issues with this then a local goldsmith would be happy to add it for you. Hope this helps and sorry for the late reply, Jaco

I love this!❤❤❤ I'm a novice silversmith/hobbyist who fell in love with making wire jewelry 5 years ago and 3 years ago I started silversmithing on a very small scale. I haven't perfected making collets or prong settings YET but it's on my to-do list and I can hardly wait to attempt this bracelet. One problem though... I don't really understand or I can't actually see exactly how you are soldering the links. It looks like you just pushed the wire link inside the collet but it must be a jump ring you're closing, right??? When you're pushing it in, are you closing a jump ring that will be soldered together permanently to connect the collets? That sounds logical to me albeit difficult but maybe I'm mistaken? Thanks so much for sharing this tutorial. It's very generous of you and gives me something to aspire to. 🙂

Thank you ! hey so i have asked in the other video, So you Do solder in the end the little wire connections , right? you connect the links with the wire from one side of the link, through the hole, and bend it backwards. Then tap on the wire so it will sit in the grooves that you made, and Then soldering it ? Again, thanks for your videos!

You are welcome. I’m glad you enjoyed the videos - yep solder all the wire parts that fold around. Then flatten them out and cut the excess. You are good to go 👍🏻

Hi there, thanks for your comment! We'd love to help. Could you send an email over to us with a bit more information like the size of the diamonds, the metal you would like the bracelet made in and the country you are based in? We can always set up a virtual or physical appointment from there on. The email address is jacothejeweller@gmail.com. Looking forward to hearing from you. - Jaco

VERY nice. I am going to try and assemble a line bracelet in platinum, but I'm not making the settings. Still, it's excellent how you did it. Most interested how you made the box clasp, not to mention the safety chain! I assume the "tongue" of the box clasp is just regular platinum, yes? It's not any type of "spring metal"? Thanks for saying that you use the HOTTEST SOLDER YOU CAN USE. My gut tells me to use 1400-1500 solder... Your tutorial is of great help.

Well, I may just use 1500-1600 solder. The settings I bought already made from a supplier. I just wanted to know what number solder to use and you answered my question. But LOVED how you made the box clasp. Really excellent work.

@@jacothejeweller I BET it is! I'm eager to try it. Someone told me to use white gold for the "tongue" of the clasp because of "spring ability".... Is your tongue on your clasp platinum, too? (I plan to use all platinum), but is that what you did, too?
@jacothejeweller

@@mindakrawitz8698 I used platinum all the way. You can harden the bend by hand and this helps a lot. But as you can imagine, this part doesn’t have to be as strong because there are other safety components to assure that the whole clasp is secure. But for me it’s platinum all the way 😊

Hey Matt. Start with what you have and buy tools as you need them. I started on a flea market and ended up with a shop. It’s all possible. Have a look at the channel - from the end of this month I’m hoping to go weekly. Good luck 👍🏻

Hi Minho, I currently us a shop bought powder but would highly recommend alum crystals on a hot plate. I’ve also used battery acid (sulfuric acid) in the past with backing soda as a neutralizer. This works well for a powdery white silver finish. But be careful with the fumes on that one. Good luck.
