Jaguars are often cited as the third largest cats alive today. They can be confused with the similar looking leopard so this video will take a moment to discuss ways to tell these two big cats apart. While they'll never naturally come in contact in the wild, considering they're separated by an ocean, they can be tough to distinguish between pictures. Jaguars live in the Americas though they have lost about 50% of their former range to habitat loss and hunting by humans. These big cats are often associated with dense jungles but they can also be found in grassland savannahs, swamps, and even mountain forests. They also love water much like tigers!
Scientific Name: Panthera onca
Range: Mostly South America but also seen as far north as southern parts of North America
Size: 93 to 220 pounds (42 to 100kg) on average
Diet: deer, armadillos, fish, large birds, and many more
Lifespan: 12 years in the wild

My favorite animal. Jaguars have occasionally been observed living in a group depending on the habitat. They also crush through skulls with the most powerful big cat jaws alive today. Thank you for the video.

Another fun fact: Male jaguars have larger home ranges that overlap the territories of several females. They will usually tolerate females in their territory, but not other males.

I know jaguars have the strongest bite of any big cat, when measured in terms of PSI. But isn't the bit of a tiger more powerful overall considering how much bigger the tiger's jaw is? Like comparing a tiger shark to a great white.

Among the Aztec civilization, all warriors were categorized as either eagles or jaguars. If the latter, they would perform in parades wearing jaguar skins and using jaguar heads as helmets!

That is very beautiful cat. Jaguar is bigger than leopard. But leopard can go to tree in very easy. In jaguar have very strong bite.

Jaguars have been known to climb trees 🌳. Sometimes they'll go after monkeys especially howler monkeys and sloths. They're very persistent depending on what the prey is.
