Steve Dangle made a really good point. He is ready to send the Canucks a gift basket for this because he hated when DeBrusk played in the playoffs against the Leafs. Jake made things miserable for them, not just with goals but with his overall play. He's a 20 goal scorer now. I can only imagine how he'd be with Pettersson. Someone has to fight for pucks along the boards and behind the net and if they'd gone out and paid Guentzel what he wanted, that wouldn't happen. DeBrusk's skill is puck retrieval as well as finishing.

@@christhornycroft3686neither of them wanted to be in Vancouver. They both signed in Boston to very similar money, zadarov wanted term and Canucks didn’t want to get handcuffed with it

@Anticipat0r eff off with your Petey hate. Petey is one of the best playmakers and already demonstrated 100+ points in the previous season. The only reason why he didn't get 100 this season was because he got stuck with incompetent wingers like Mikheyev and Kuzmenko who couldn't convert his beautiful passes.

@@rrhev bandwagoner alert petey is not one of the best playmakers just look at our powerplay too see how bad he is. there is a reason they go to jt miller on the powerplay and not the overrated petterson cause he cant make plays and he cant protect the puck.

You're making your assessment on one down year and basically ignoring his 2022-2023 season where he was near the top of the league in points and recognized as a top 10 center in the league. Also in that season, JT Miller was atrociously bad. Take off your recency bias glasses.

Tocchet and Louie were good buddies growing up in the league, he knew what he was getting into and I love this pickup. He's going to hit career highs with Pettersson

I feel like he’d be better with Miller than Pettersson, but it will be interesting to see either way. I do wish we got Bertuzzi or Toffoli, but seeing Toffoli get 6 mil per I understand why they passed on him. Bertuzzi made 5.5 mil with Chicago, so same as DeBrusk- both are similar points wise. On the plus DeBrusk is the younger of the two. I do hope Heinen will be a sleeper signing. I think they should pair him with Pettersson and Hoglander to start the season.

@@thedingbatdingers4326 I just don’t think he fit in with Toronto too well. He was great in Detroit for the last couple years there and excelled with the Bruins, they just didn’t have the space to sign him again.

Have you seen some of the contracts teams were throwing at players today lol lots of overpaid players that were older with the same term, more tidy business for Alvin let's not forget this was his plan B maybe even C after Gunztel and others didn't work out

@@jameskillbot2867 that's fair free agency is where a lot of teams make horrible decisions and we will have to wait and see how it plays out but 5.5 million with the cap expected to continue to rise I feel pretty confident about considering he had the exact same numbers has Lindholm last year and even had 1 more points than him in the same amount of playoff games and he's younger and Lindholm signed for 7.5 at 7 years

@@kianruda3292 You dont sign a guy who is 28 that brings 20 goals and 40 points to term. Those players grow on trees. He wont be good enough defensively to play PK or 4th line so you are banking that he plays at the peak of what he has showed to be his ceiling into his mid 30s when tons of younger and cheaper goal scorers will be coming and going. You dont build a team with players like Debrusk. You fill short term holes and replace him as soon as he gets expensive.

It's an unconscious way of taking the edge off what you're about to say, an attempt to make it more palatable and less controversial, make it so you don't have to defend it, in that it's not just my opinion, it's "obvious" to everyone. It's a kind of reflexive group-think common to hockey players or anyone involved in a close-knit team environment.

Streaky player. I can't help that Vancouver overpaid. He won't measure up to Tocc's mentality and perception. My take? DeBrusk will be asking for a trade before his second year is through. Sorry, but I've followed him and although he shows up for clutch moments (sometimes), he melts into the background.
