A collection of Jake Hess and the Original Imperials, featuring the wonderful voice of Shaun Neilson,of Montgomery, Alabama. Shaun went on to become a backup singer for Elvis. It is told that Elvis said that Shaun was his favorite singer. He is certainly my favorite high tenor singer of all times. I hope you enjoy half as much as I do.

This is Old Time Gospel Gold. Jake Hess was the standard all other Gospell singers were measured by in my opinion! What is Heaven going to be like with all these great pioneers of Gospel music singing around the throne of God? There are no words!

I could listen to this music all day. Never get tired of listening to good gospel music. Shaun Neilson has always been my favorite tenor. Gary McSpadden and Jake Hess were always no 1 also.

Had the honor to be on the stage with them in the mid 60’s as their opening act. Not just great singers but truly messengers of song to our Lord, but the prayer time beforehand showd

Lead Me Home! What an outstanding job these guys do. Listening to this soft easy song helps me to get close to the Master one on one during my quiet private time. I could listen to this song over and over. Praise God that he leads us home no matter how for we stray away. Thanks for your tender love and giving me the peace within that only God can give. Bless the Imperials for singing and the person who put this on youtube. What a blessing it is to me.Thanks & God Bless. Can't wait to get to the other side

These harmonies are dead sophisticated and difficult. Very few SGM groups in history could sing like this.

Listening to the Imperials is sort of like listening to the Statesmen, but with much better recording techniques and a slightly larger and tighter band. Truly impressive singing and great arrangements.

...I must conquer, you're right - in southern gospel till they went contemporary. Their harmonies began tight n lessen after 1972.

Other than the Film "Sing A Song For Heaven's Sake" no one on youtube seems to have any clips of Jake Hess and The Imperials singing live, That is a real shame! But glad to have these great Imperials songs all in one place.

I truly share you feelings. For your information, in the movie the Imperials were voice syncing a recording and the high tenor voice was Sherrill Nielson even though he was not the tenor shown in the movie.

Thank you for your response. Yes, thanks, I knew that the film featured Jim Murray's body but Shaun's voice! A jarring juxtaposition! I had the pleasure, as a young lad, of seeing Jake the Imperials and J.D. and The Stamps several times at Constitution Hall in D.C. Jake and The Imperials had to have appeared on the Gospel Jubilee or some such other TV Show, so someone must have some footage. Bill Gaither are you listening?!

I was at the Georgia Dome Gaither event back in the 90s and a lot of the "talent" had a booth or at least a table with their merch. At Jake's table I found myself chatting with Chris (Jake's son) and somehow we were talking about the masters for these albums. Chris said he thought Armond had most of that haul. I've kept my eyes open thinking that he might offer some kind of comprehensive collection. So far, nuttin'. Like buying the Mona Lisa then putting it in storage. 😗
