What do you think will happen to this guy when he gets injured? Taking a pay cut from a contract that you were offered by someone else to begin with is insane. Iverson was much better, wasn't he? D.Rose? Isaiah Thomas? A year or two ago, people were kissing Klay and Gobert's asses, but now they think they don't deserve their pay cheques and awards, in the latter's case. If Jalen is injured and abandoned by the team and organisation like Derrick and Isaiah were, in hindsight, is this a smart move? Nah!

Being offered and signing a good contract, that you rightly earned, but leaving money on the table to serve the interests of a multi-Billion dollar franchise is clown territory. Most NBA players are broke by age 40, so the more he makes and saves now, the better off he will be. Anything could happen. He could get hit by the bad juju that struck down Ben Simmons and his career could be flushed down the toilet in a flash. This is a bad decision that all the other players who are better than Brunson never made. Don't forget he still needs to pay his agent a cut of that contract. So it's even less. Draymond Green and Klay Thompson regret taking pay cuts when they were younger, but now make less money in their older years as age devalues them. The risk is too high. But it is his risk to make....

He earned and negotiated his previous contract, but he's now taking a pay cut for this big, multi- billion dollar franchise that we ALL know will never show him loyalty in return. And he has to pay his agent and agency 10% of his previous contract, not his pay cut contract. So what he walks away with, whilst not minimum wage, is much less than every other guard of his calibre. Yes, he'll make more than the average WNBA player and minimum wage- but if a player worse than him achieves more success and fortune on a sh*ttier team? Let me ask you this, in all honesty would you do the same?

I kept saying this. So many superstars complaining about not having a strong supporting cast yet not willing to take paycuts or work their contracts around their teammates so they can keep their core players. This is a championship calibur move and if the Knicks don't reward him by making the right moves no one will judge him if he decides to look elsewhere in the future

Assuming he has a future. The Warriors were willing to go over the cap to win, New York isn't. Taking a pay cut never works out well. Teams aren't loyal. If his name was 'Jalen Dolan', then yes, it would make sense to take a pay cut. New York offered him that contract- telling him they can't make moves in Free Agency and need him to take home less, despite the NBA not allowing under the table guarantees is a huge reach by the Knicks organisation and idiocy on Brunson's part.

If a great center or power forward was available, particularly a stretch 4, I think he would have taken a bigger cut. LeBron already took a pay cut.

I hope it all works out for Brunson and the Knicks. Brunson may have researched the structural strategies championship organizations, but the entire Knicks Front Office needs to do that also. The Knicks franchise has been in decline since the 90s, they need to do all the studying and research they can to become true championship contenders again.
