Jalen Brunson has turned himself into one of the NBA's best offensive engines, raising the Knicks to the playoffs as an oftentimes lone creator.

@pinobluevogel6458
@pinobluevogel6458 2 ай бұрын
I would say he has some of the same qualities, like keeping up his (tight) dribble, being able to get past defenders with guile and deception instead of sheer athleticism and explosiveness. The main difference between him and Luka is size though. While Brunson is built like a tank and can play extremely physical, he doesn't have a 6'7, 230 pound body (201cm, 104kg) to bang against defenders. He is even shiftier than Luka on the ball though, probably due to playing at this size for all of his basketball career. Sometimes it looks like he is teleporting past defenders, while Luka instead would keep them on his hip and score through them, Brunson usually gets past them and is relatively open when he takes the shot. While Brunson for sure would be a godly athlete compared to ordinary humans, Luka is an extremely strong physical player even for the NBA. The herky jerk style of stopping on a dime and zipping past, is a thing they share for sure.

@@callsins3413 You might be right for sure. Nearly always you see players, especially younger ones rub off of eachother in some way, copying certain skills, styles and tricks. I have to say though, in his Villanova years, Brunson was an extremely effective player already and he for sure was an underrated pick coming into the league, very much a steal of the draft, especially looking back. People always underrate these smaller guards, as most of them don't pan out. Brunson though, plays like a huge guy, he is just tough and strong, in addition to being highly skilled and having a great work ethic.

I told my old roomate who now lives in NY that whoever got Brunson was going to be happily surprised. He played like a professional in college, and despite his four year status, has been an absolute slam dunk in the league. I like how he mixes in post moves while driving, it’s unusual for a guard and opens up passing lanes that typically wouldn’t be there for someone of his stature

The fact that he probably won’t win MVP is absurd. There is no one more valuable to their team than Brunson. The Knicks are a bottom 3 team in scoring when he doesn’t play. When he does play they’re top 5. Combined with the ridiculous numbers he puts up on a night to night basis, he’s super consistent and has lead the Knicks to a second place finish in the East, as a Knicks fan, he’s made me so happy. This might be the best team we’ve had in the last 25 years Edit: he was also snubbed from Team USA Today along with the fact he wasn’t an all star starter this year. I cannot wait for the playoffs

he is so much fun to watch. Breakdowns like these are so necessary bc if you just tune into watch him every now and then you would think his game is ugly bc he takes so many contested shots...but in reality its where he thrives. His inside presence as a small guard is up there with guys like curry irving and iverson, but in a much different manner that hes not beating them with speed, fancy lays, or hyper-athleticism its all attention to detail and footwork. its like watching hakeem if he was shrunk down to 6'1. People can say "oh the knicks don't have it this year they are overrated" but if you have watched the knicks like I have the knicks can compete with anyone as long as brunson is on the court. Give him his ALL NBA First team nod.

Great look into Jalen Brunson's offensive game. As with some of your other videos that are excellent, it only leaves me behind with the: "But what about his defense?" question. I know not everyone is a sucker for defense like I am, but not to menion anything at all is doing Brunson a bit of injustice, as he is such a smart and effective player for his size, you wouldn't want him as the weakest defender on a defense, as he is actually quite good at it.

@Odysseus1999 2 ай бұрын
Brunson, Ja, then Trae. I’m a Knicks fan, so I’m biased, but Brunson is just a winner who always shows up when you need him. He leads by example. He already averages almost 30 a game and gets better every year, and he’s underrated on the defensive-end. I like Ja but his actions off the court and his durability leave much to be desired. I’m also not sure if he’s a good leader for his team. He’s a fantastic scorer, leaper, and is a great defender. Trae Young is a great scorer and facilitator. That being said, his defense is pretty bad and his teams don’t win. I’m not sure if that’s his fault, his team is pretty bad. However, you can also make the case that he has more opportunity to facilitate and score because the roster isn’t very good. If the Hawks had another star, perhaps Trae Young’s stats would look less impressive. We have no way of knowing.

Brunson is both talented and tough, especially for a guy 6’1”. That said, the Refs must start calling offensive fouls on him for blatantly throwing his body into defenders on his jump shots. Brunson finds defenders on the court, maneuvers over to them and forces contact in a non-basketball move. Exactly like Trea Young used to do before the league, supposedly, outlawed it. It needs to stop, and the league will make it stop, just as it did with Young.

The Lukasexuals don't believe me when I say if I'm a GM, I would rather have Brunson than Luka on a team right now. You get 95% of the player for 60% the price. And arguably, as of April 2024, Brunson also has better/more consistent intangibles, affect on team chemistry/winning.

@@xavierb9061 Brunson’s a P&R ball-handler, same as Luka, there’s only one ball so both being great at it doesn’t have any synergy. Porzingis was misused for a lot of that time, and just straight up wasn’t playing as good as he is now.

He's unguardable because the rules are not enforced. I'm not hating. He's great at handling the ball, but about a third of these plays he's carrying over his dribble. But the NBA is sports entertainment these days.

One night too late huh? He is not impossible to guard. He is difficult, not impossible. Doncic is the closest to "impossible" to guard in today's NBA. SGA comes second. Every other star might be difficult but they are all far from impossible. Brunson is at the same level as Haliburton at this point. If a solid defense puts on the work, they can lock him up with no major headaches. Doncic and SGA are the ones that elite coaches are having a hard time to decipher.
