It is 70 years since author Ian Fleming introduced James Bond to the world.
The author's armed forces career during the Second World War, helped shape the world-famous 007 character.
Ian Fleming died in 1964, leaving behind collections of novels, short stories and films.

Excellent overview!😊 I think Bond is a combination of Fleming & Lee...Perhaps you might do a treatment of Lee's war experiences...I understand they would make a great book & an excellent series of films all by themselves...i.e. , his description of what actually happens to a man when hit with a F-S fighting knife...Thanks!!

As a young officer Ian Fleming wrote the Trout memo, later one suggestion was used and expanded upon. That mission was Operation Mincemeat

As someone else pointed out there are many inaccuracies in this. There is also no mention of his brother Peter Fleming’s influence on the character of James Bond.

Many inaccuracies here. He only spent a short time in Sandhurst but never commissioned. He only successfully interviewed for the role of assistant to the director of Naval Intelligence WAY later.

Unfortunately Daniel Craig comical portrayal of the character really hurt it,

Thank you for this! I've never run across anyone else with a similar viewpoint. Daniel Craig may be a good actor, but he's not right for James Bond, and it hurts my soul every time I hear anyone who is clueless enough to think otherwise.

If you look through all of his military career, he never served in any 'multicultural' regiments with homosexual trans black dwarves from a Hindu background, strangely enough, which is why people get annoyed when the communist establishment tries to interject revisionist history that Bond could have been based on such a character.

It took the U.S. armed forces to desegregate in 1956. The Europeans didn't have that problem.
