Excellent work Steve! My rankings from top to bottom would be T2, Aliens, The Terminator, True Lies, The Abyss, Titanic, Avatar, Avatar 2, and Piranha 2.

i agree with the Avatar movies. i still think they are great looking movies but i have the ability to watch in 3D at home and they are definitely more Theatre event movies as opposed to rewatch often at home type movies. True Lies i disagree with; to me its the most rewatchable of his movies with T2 a really close second. mainly cause to me that movie has everything from action to comedy to romance, so its has something for every audience member. but if we all had the same opinions there would be no discussion to have. great video

Totally agree on the avatar movies! Fun and totally forgettable. My list: Aliens, T2, The Abyss, Terminator, True Lies, Titanic, Avatar, Avatar 2, Piranha 2 As low as Titanic is, I still love it and saw it 3 times in the theatre when it originally came out.

@@ReinhardtCustoms me too, I saw Titanic 3 times in the theater. Yes, great ranking, the top 6 are pretty close for me, but Aliens has to be #1.

Avatar and Avatar 2 are completely different beasts for me. I saw Avatar at the cinema twice (once in 3D and once in 2D) bought the (2D) Blu-ray and watched it several times, then bought the fully extended cut on (2D) Blu-ray last year, I've only watched the extended once but thought was an improvement and will be my "go to" next time I watch it. I totally get why people might not like the original Avatar but I love it myself...I'm completely able to put aside it's "simplicities" and "limitations" and enjoy the spectacle and the surprisingly intelligent bits (if you look for them), I always have a blast with it. Avatar 2 on the other hand, I've only watched once (on 4K rental) and wont ever watch again...the first 30mins is incredibly hard going because of all the ridiculous "ret-conning" and contrived story-telling they do so they can bring back Stephen Land and Sigourney Weaver as well as introduce the very annoying character "Spider" and other characters I don't care for...after that it's OK, some good action but ultimately I'm not invested in any of the characters or story and find it all a waste of time. I've only seen "Titanic" once and it probably wasn't in the best environment but I didn't like it myself. I might check out the 4K on a rental at some point and give it a "proper chance" but I'd be surprised if my opinion changes much. "True Lies" is very good but I haven't seen it in a long time (I only have the DVD, I want to rent the 4K before I decide if I want to buy it). The Abyss I recently got the 4K of and have watched twice already (Theatrical and Extended versions) 🙂"The Terminator" and "Terminator 2" are both classics, I've watched them both several times but not in a long time (both due a re-watch soon !). "Aliens" is another classic, I have the Quad Blu-ray set and I agree is probably the most re-watchable...such a great movie ! I'll be watching that one again soon ! 🙂

Excellent! Yes, Titanic is best to see in a movie theater and seeing it on physical media isn’t quite as good, but still great imo. Yes, Aliens and the first two Terminator movies are all time classics for me. I was so happy to see The Abyss and True Lies on 4K and they’re not even close to being as bad as some people are saying.

@@excelsiormoviereviews When I saw Titanic, it was on a relatively small TV on Boxing Day with about a dozen people in the room (family Christmas) and everyone talking away, distracted and many of them (including myself) had probably had had a drink or two ;-) so as I say, not really the best environment to judge the merits of a movie...that said, I don't think it's my sort of movie...but I will give it a proper go at some point, I'm very fortunate to have a giant OLED and very good 5.1 sound system and outside of an IMAX screen I genuinely enjoy most movies more at home these days than I do at the cinema. I missed Oppenheimer at the cinema but I thought it was an excellent watch at home on 4K a couple of months back for example. The new "Cameron 4Ks" are definitely controversial, imo people need to understand and accept that we don't all see/experience CGI/artifical images in exactly the same way. It's crazy that some people get extremely angry and call people liars and "Cameron haters" if they say they don't like the image being presented or from the other perspective call people liars and "Cameron shills" if they say they do like it ! I remember watching "The Sopranos" years ago after one of my best friends recommened it (it's his favourite show), I really liked it but there's an episode where CGI is clearly used on Tony Soprano's mother (I think the actress had sadly passed away and they did the best they could)...it completely freaked me out when I saw it because "The Sopranos" is ofc not a show where you would expect to see CGI and to me it was so obvious and "uncanny valley" that I didn't like looking at it. When I told my friend about it "great show ! but that episode with his mother completely freaked me out..." he had absolutely no idea what I was talking about, to him it had looked completely real and he didn't even notice...and this was/is his favourite show ! I don't doubt for a second that my friend didn't have an issue with it but to my eyes it was fake and I didn't like it at all, not on a "quality level" but on an "uncanny valley level" (like an eerie, freaky...I don't want to look at this ! sorta feeling). I'm not saying that these Cameron 4Ks are on that level, I'm just trying to illustrate that we don't all experience "artifical/CGI enhanced" things in the same way. When it comes to "The Abyss" it was a pre-order purchase for me because I love the movie but all I had was a non-anamorphic DVD of it, I'd also heard that this movie was probably the least likely for me to have an issue with it because it came from a new 4K scan and had been less tampered with than the others. I'm happy with the 4K of the Abyss, I've watched it twice and I'm glad I bought it...if I'm to be critical then I would say that I don't like the colour changes in some scenes (blue filter) and there are a couple of bits that make me feel a bit "Avatar" like (mainly the ship stuff) but I can definitely live with it, as if they're using green screen or something (which I don't think they are but it's not a problem). When it comes to "Aliens" I managed to rent the 4K the other week and I don't like it myself. Now, don't get me wrong, I'm very happy for people who enjoy this new release, all power to them ! but for me it's clearly been artifically tampered with to the point that I feel "stressed" watching it...I feel like my brain knows it's not "right" and is trying to make sense of what it's watching and it's not an enjoyable experience for me. I repeatedly switched between the 4K and my Blu-ray (from the Quad set) and it was a night and day difference...the Blu-ray looks great and I can relax and enjoy it but the 4K looks unnaturally smoothed in places, unnaturally sharp in others and feels like there is "unnatural motion blur" at times. If there is a close-up of a face or part of the scenery, especially if there's little motion going on then it looks superb and I have no problem with it but in "longer shots" where objects and actors are at different depths of field and there is motion, it just doesn't look right to me and I can't bear to watch it. Once again, I'll say that if other people (most people probably) have no issue with it and find the image to be pleasing and an improvement over the Blu-ray then all power to them, I'm happy that they have an upgrade that they enjoy but for me personally, I'm not getting rid of my Blu-ray and wont be buying the 4K. I haven't seen the 4K of True Lies yet.

@@tigerblue42 yes, some people are extremely critical on 4K and Cameron has has commented that the grade of Kodak film used for Aliens had some issues and it’s difficult to make it look great on 4K. Yes, definitely be in the right viewing situation the next time you watch Titanic and allow yourself to get wrapped up in it.
