Oh well they say...it's because our shop is struggling, we need to balance the budget. So we can't let you have it, sorry...but here we will let you have this single grape. And please don't forget to submit to all our rules and laws that we have dictated to you!

This is the point I always try to make to people. Unless a government is providing services to the electorate, it’s really not functioning. What makes it worse is that all these added measures are being implemented because Truss tanked the economy, leaving is even weaker than we were before.

@jtyler9130
@jtyler9130 Жыл бұрын
It’s been well proven that raising tax on the wealthiest does very little, as they’ll move money offshore, or find legal ways to get around paying. Lowering higher rate tax does encourage more money to the U.K. as people move here and spend here. Announcing this during a cost of living crisis however was too out of touch and not the right time to bring about. Raising tax on the wealthy is just something people say that don’t understand how the economy works. Social care is beyond being on its knees. Staff are leaving in droves. Believe me, because I work in social care. I've witnessed current residents having to suffer diminished standards of care, simply because there are not enough staff to administer to their needs. Care homes have empty rooms, again because they cannot get the staff. This knocks on to the broader healthcare system, with people stuck in hospitals - taking beds and staff time through no fault of their own - because care homes are unable to accommodate them. And now the money that was being allocated to help support the system - trivial and insufficient as it was - has been cut. And I am genuinely beginning to think that there is an ideological agenda behind this: Social Darwinism. They want the weakest and most vulnerable in society - those who don't, or who no longer contribute to 'economic growth' - to simply die.

This isn't a snide attack on Truss but I'm genuinely starting to get a bit concerned for her mental health. I watched her earlier in The Commons ( when she was there ) & I was really struck by her appearance. She looked heavily sedated. As much as I despise the Tories and everything they stand for I wouldn't want to wish genuine harm on another human being. She deserves to go for the damage she's done but equally for her own sake now she needs to be removed from office

@@Dacialastun No one is paying back anything directly. A central bank buys "safe" bonds with money they invented, and either slowly sells them back to a stabilized market (balance sheet contraction), or can simple wait out the maturity of the bonds. The risk is asset price inflation when the financial people get cute and use the cash received to invest in property, loans to companies for share buybacks, etc.

The irony of this whole affair with energy is that it is a self-inflicted wound, and they cannot find a remedy that will cure it. Why do we elect those people to run the country,since somebody else is their master and decision maker? Opinion of the electorate on crucial matters for the country is not something that the government likes to consider, but they only act when they are pushed to the wall.

As of late afternoon 17th October 2022, reasonable estimates suggest that even after the reversal of the Conservative Government September Mini Budget, the cost to the country is thirty billion pound. That’s thirty thousand million pounds - £30,000,000,000. It’s very difficult to visualise what that amount of money will buy, but if look at how much it cost to build the Royal Liverpool Hospital as a yard stick and make an adjustment for the overspending brought about by the failure of the Pfi and estimate the cost at say four hundred million - £400,000,000 per hospital then it less then three weeks the casino economics of the Conservative Government has thrown away the equivalent of 70 major hospitals.
