Maybe because he never owned any people... which seemed extremely important to other Founders.

@@yvonneplant9434 yeah also he contributed in almost every important event in US independence. Historians say that if Washington was the hand of the revolution and Jefferson pen then Adams was it's ‘engine'.

~74 in 1810. The portrait of him shown is actually from around 1800 when he was around 64. Adams didn't acquire the portrait until around 1810 shortly after Madison entered office and for some reason didn't want Adams' painting.
