STD is a really good moniker for it. Also, the "you need to support the series no matter what" rhetoric is the worst, because supporting terrible new things will just give you more of that terrible new thing.

What people miss in writing Trek is that Trek handles characters best when it remembers that people serving on a starship want to be there, worked hard to get there, and act professionaloly both around other co-workers and others. In TNG after season 2 you got that with character conflict and DS9 was full of that with Worf hating most of the people on the station but able to work with them and O'brien early strong dislike for Bashir allowed room for a friendship to grow because they respected each other enough to see past their differences and grow to like each other. Not so in Discovery. Nearly the entire cast can't stand each other both personally or professionally. For discovery since they changed the format of the show to have like a Troi episode or a Picard episode in Discovery with each episode being a Micheal Burnham episode the show gambles that want to watch her solve the problems week after week and not develop the other characters very much.

A point about that shot from the Matrix that Woolie brings up - of people in a bright white room, working at consoles with inverted-colour cascading text on them. If I remember correctly, that shot was in the Matrix Reloaded, and was showing the flight controllers managing Zion's hovercraft dock. Instead of working in a physical flight control room within the dock, they use Matrix-derived simulation tech to create a simulated flight control room, and work from within that. The reason the room is so bright and clean is because it was created by humans, for humans, so of course they're going to make their simulated work-space bright and fancy, instead of dark and grungy.

The original Klingon change was in Star Trek: The Motion Picture. Also, there is conlfict in Prime Star Trek. For example between McCoy, Spock, and Kirk. They just handle it in a mature manner.

After finishing the entire 4 seasons of Enterprise, never bothered watching STD. Instead, watched TOS including it's films, TNG but not it's films, DS9, and then as of this moment (01/20/2021 - 11:30 PM) watching the 7th final season of Voyager.

I was actually hoping Chewie & Fuckface ft. Plague would talk about Discovery, since we're up to episode V now. Overall I think it's alright, it's new Star Trek, so just by it's legacy it's going to get some leeway, they're got some interesting designs and ideas, like being able to jump to places in the universe using BIOSCIENCE AND ANIMAL SUFFERING, the most powerful gougi. I can't help but feel though that right now, I couldn't really tell you what the overall arcing plot is besides; "Klingons are bad, ooh boy we better stop them." All in all it's like 6/10 so far, since it's still ongoing and it heavy feels like someone's AU side story but I'm still gonna finish the series.

Don't get the star wars comment about them acting like monks so it doesn't fit. The order doesn't exist in the original trilogy, so you would never know what an actual jedi organization is like if you only watch the original trilogy.

As soon as Eli said that saying "It's not realistic" is a dumb objection to Roddenberry's vision, I lost him. Gene Roddenberry's vision was fantasy wish fulfillment for mental infants. The first two seasons of TNG are proof enough of that, plus how great DS9 ended up becoming, comparatively speaking.
