A familiar face returns for the Flyers' biggest game of the season (so far).
PHLY Sports' Charlie O'Connor reports from Flyers morning skate in anticipation of tonight's huge Metropolitan Division clash with the New York Islanders, a game with serious playoff implications. New goalie arrival Ivan Fedotov will NOT be in net for the team, but defenseman Jamie Drysdale will make his return after a near five-week absence.
And it looks like head coach John Tortorella is going with a veteran-heavy lineup, bringing Cam Atkinson and Nicolas Deslauriers back in while putting struggling forward Sean Couturier back on a scoring line and on the power play.

#89 drawing back in. "Oh good, the police." Although I don't have any issue with Brink getting a seat, I still don't quite understand his NHL upside. And Farabee has earned a lesser role. I'm starting to think both he and TK aren't 100% of late, given their play.

Brink has a very accurate shot, and people talk about his hockey IQ a lot. He's just too scrawny but maybe the weight room could beef him out a little.

You trade for Gurianov so that he at least gives you an element on you bench you didn't possess in case you need it. But instead they just *KEEP* shoving Atkinson down our throats. He adds nothing. The only reason he isn't in the AHL right now is because he's besties with the coach. It's a disgrace. There is no argument anyone can make for playing him ever.

Its just the principle of blocking a prospect from playing in an important game with a net negative 35 year old replacement. Like what are we doing. These repeated anti rebuild ticks the coach keeps hitting is making my head explode. At least Lycksell and Gurianov add speed, or shooting ability, or...literally anything. But no we're stuck with "veteran presence" who "won't make mistakes" pffffft

To get playoff experience, you need to make the playoffs first. Coach knows what he is doing.

@@vimes3702Cam Atkinson does not have a A POINT in his last 17 games. I'm just talking about a singularly important game against NYI. Ignore the possibility of playoffs for a second. The coach is WILLINGLY playing an offensive black hole who's 35 years old, who very well could be bought out by July 1st, over literally anyone else on the roster who adds tangible value to the current team AND is also not ancient and has room to grow that will help the future of this franchise which is what ACTUALLY MATTERS. Its anti rebuild nonsense. Favoritism for a bad player and hurting the development path for others.
