It's said that Jane Russell was one of the only women in Hollywood that was a friend to Marilyn. Ginger Rogers seemed to care about her, as did a few others but Jane was unequivocally kind to her and l always loved that about her.

Agreed! It is a stark contrast though when you look at how Jane talked about having her group of gfs at her Malibu beach house joking about their own problems in life and how Marilyn didnt have that kind of support system and was all alone at home when she died. Yes Jane, if only you and Marilyn kept in touch after GPB, maybe she would be at your beach house that day and we wld still see at least a few more decades of Marilyn on TV or even in this world.

@@ravenna9969Yes, Botox wasn't used for cosmetic treatment until the 21st century. I'd be very surprised if Jane's youthfulness was due to face lifts either as that just tightens the skin but cannot erase wrinkles Case in pt, Joan Rivers, Helen Mirren [yes, she's admitted to having at least 2 to Clive James]. Jane Russell is so magnanimous, & you can tell she genuinely liked & appreciated Marilyn. She could easily badmouth Marilyn the way so many have after Marilyn's death, but instead she consistently praises Marilyn's talent & amiability. Her assessment of Marilyn as sensitive, driven & ambitious, talented, funny & deeply insecure is actually the assessment that's emerged over time, despite the fact that Jane was saying these things decades ago when it was still popular to diminish & dismiss Marilyn's identity & talent. I come away from this with a greater appreciation of Marilyn, but more than that a deep respect for Jane Russell & how she conducts herself. Strong, honest, talented beautiful women--both of them.
@emmad.1762 жыл бұрын
That's an excellent point. Sadly Marilyn didn't seem to get the respect she deserved when alive but blessfully seems to have after death. A lot of people seemed to appreciate things about working with her though (kind of like britney spears. Many have loved working with her but she's been torn to shreds at the same time and had people in the industry hurt her to get ahead). In any case, Jane Russell was very loyal and sweet to her and I wish her and Marilyn had stayed friends. Jane Russell was also beautiful and very talented. R.I.P ♡

So are a lot of people though but she needed to learn to cope and deal not just dope her up with more meds. A lot of people go through this and deal. I have been through some traumatic things in my life but when I learned to deal with stuff and just accept it or move on I was finally doing better and got off the meds. I mean sometimes it was still hard but I worked through it and without meds and I'm better for it. I do not think taking that stuff for years and years and years was good. What she needed was a good therapist or counselor that actually cared. I was the same like her I have no family but one family member that it was not good with at first so I had to learn how to deal. I agree with Jane if she had a good homebase and like long term good friends or if any of her marriges would have worked out and she could have made her own family I think she would have been happy but I heard she kept losing babies and she wanted to be a mother so bad and make a family. And then her marriages were not working out and getting divorced. I think she could not cope with losing babies either and I think that is one of the things she wanted the most and felt like she could not get for herself and give to her husband. She probably felt she could not make a family without a baby and I think that hurt her very much. I know they showed pictures of her coming out the hospital when they said she lost her baby and she just looked distract. I'm not sure she could have kids I don't think her body could do that some womens bodies can just not hold and have kids for some reasons and I heard she lost a lot of babies.
@katherinewilson18534 жыл бұрын
@Dαɾk Kíss No. You are not understanding it. As a traumatised person, she was searching for something or someone to provide security because she was never provided that. One (unwise) way humans look for attention, affection, validation, and love is through sex and service to others. That is very easily taken advantage of when traumatised in certain ways. She actually most likely had physical and mental damage that most people do not consider, not even those who have it. She was very young, and healing things such as this isn't as easy as a pill. Sometimes it can take years.

if you listened to jane russell..she was telling you how she tried to get MM..to be part of her girl group.....because it was a healthy good thing...but MM...for whatever reason...never wanted that....and dont be so sure MM was taken advantage of....she was then and remains today...the most sensual woman ever to appear in films....

I like that Jane Russell basically said the same things about Marilyn repeatedly over many years and many interviews, gives it all a real sense of consistency that Marilyn was exactly how she describes her.
@cybramir4 жыл бұрын
Jane was always so genuine. So many people came out of the woodwork claiming to be best friends with Marilyn and talk about their “experiences” with her just to get some attention, but Jane never claimed to be her best friend or told embellished stories of their time together. She always just told the plain truth - she liked and respected Marilyn.

Jane Russell is a great example of the dictate, "If you can't say something good or nice about another person , say nothing. " She is very kind in what she says about Marilyn.

Jane seemed like such a genuinely good woman. The sort of person who would big up and defend her friends to others when they weren’t in the room. I love the way she always spoke so highly of Marilyn and understood how sensitive she was. Both so ahead of their time. They’ll both be remembered forever ❤️

It's sad. Marilyn got in with Pat and Peter Lawford towards the end. Pat being the Kennedy's sister. One wonders whether these people were good for Marilyn or trustworthy, but Marilyn was a loner and always moving on to new people instead of trusting in someone like Jane who would have been a good trustworthy friend to her.

Marylin was cute, but Jane was hot. I was just a kid when "Gentlemen Prefer Blondes" came out, but I have seen and enjoyed it many times through the years, but I guess I'm not a gentleman, because I have always preferred brunettes. Marylin was a tremendous and charismatic talent on the screen. It's a shame that, like so many others, she became a victim of her success.

I agree fully now and I always said I was born way before my time bc I always felt I was better off in the 20'sor 30's to be born. And even soon but no later that when my momma Dukes rip was born in 1949. And I'd rather. Not be in this TECHNOLOGY life where everyone else revolves around it so so much like other ppl or ppl who may cant afford that luxury yet I never wanted to know any of it even being born in 1986 but I never felt I. Place in this life. I'd much rather be in life with these women and how things were but this time. No no no I'd rather work hard like these women instead of now. And I wish they would stop talking bad about marilynn monroe and maybe others.... look how her life her ended bc. Of who. She ran into and what happened to this beautiful woman who was in her hardest times so at that time never seen things another way or paid too. I'm sorry but I feel so very strong bc of the fact that how she passed was not right and so very sad and taken advantage of from other men whether she had a choice or not. And most time not.... and this was not apart of her career and off set other actresses.. and only the close ones truly maybe have known but knew and couldn't say shit bc of this business. And that they might take them out also.... she was a big victim in this business and it's sad that they didnt look out for her but left her to herself and take "the pain" was supposed to be able to be able to be fine. And after awhile esp with the JFK family members she was a hit and probably along with others who thought she all know she should have been alive alot longer than what she did. Breaks my heart😥😪😢😭🤧

prettylittlepsycho 1027 I have to admit I didn’t read quite all of your words, but I’m with you on the desire for some aspects of that time as opposed to now-but I emphasize some aspects. I’m guessing based on your comment that you are definitely not (racially) Black. Not a good time for us. But as far is the glamour, the essence of people in general from the poor to the rich-seems like everyone I want it to look nice and did look nice using whatever they had. Femininity was fine, and not looked down on-it definitely has its good points, that time. But Hollywood was a hell like a nightmare for black people. And I think about how people like Lena Horne, Sidney Poitier, Dorothy Dandridge, and others still stood there went out there did great work and look beautiful doing it when they couldn’t even go to the bathroom In some of the same places that they performed-in front of all white only audiences at that. I don’t think a lot of people like to acknowledge or even have a clue the depth and the very far-reaching effects of the psychological damage that did. Yes some people do take this true phenomenon for lack of a better term, and places in contacts where it is not immediately relevant or even not there in a specific given situation, and I think that’s what a lot of people respond negatively to. But the truth is this is very real and has a lot to do with a lot, shall I say. This is worth saying. But all of this to say I understand why someone would prefer that era-but I have to say only someone who isn’t black would/ might fully agree with you, friend. Cheerio.
