This is the most useful video on KZfaq on how to thread the overlocker. I got a new machine and got horrified to see that the right lower looper thread came out and this is the one which is harder to thread any others.... I had to learn!! It took me over an hour but I now think I can overcome absolutely anything in my life! Bring it on!!! THANK YOU TYSEW!!

I have had my Janome overlocker for many years and never knew how much more I could do with it rather than just overlocking. Thank you for a great video. 22/04/20

I just watched this for the flatlock instructions, but perusing the comments reminds me of the days before I could consistently thread the machine. I'd spend a hour, and when it finally worked I wouldn't be able to remember what I had done differently that time. Now, threading is a breeze, and I love the Janome serger.

I just bought this machine for 50 dollars in pretty much new condition. Fortunately it had a VHS instruction tape with it! The biggest problem was trying to find a VHS tape player😂😂😂. So happy I found this video👍

Once you get the hang of threading it, the overlocker makes everything look so professional. Admit to having watched the video lots of times whilst shouting at my machine at the beginning.

I just found this video and I am so grateful! I wanted to sew a flatlock seam but my Janome manual doesn't mention it. Your explanation of how to do this on my machine saved the day!

This is an absolute gem of a video. I just got a second hand machine and thought it was defective. Turns out my interpretation of the manual was the problem

thanks for a clear, understandable PRACTICAL working vid. Janome manual forgot to mention clearing the knife to reset rolling hem chain finger. glad I found you before I took a hammer to it! Once you clear the obstacles, this machine is great. I went from zero to making a sectional slipcover for my sofa. Whole thing comes apart for washing, making it much more dog friendly. Also love the narrator, clear and not cutesy or condescending. will look for more.

I have been using my Janome overlocker for some time. I used a thickish fleece and was doing well, making a dog bed cover, then it jammed. The wheel will go backwards taking the needles right up, but not entirely up to the top in the normal sewing direction of the wheel. I believe that it jams where the two looper needles meet and won't pass each other as normal. I have regularly oiled the machine, and cleaned it out but hit a seam which caused the partial jamming.I found this exceptionally useful video giving such help on the varieties of stitches! Threading the front overlocker (green) needle through the underneath is always difficult for me. Wish that I had found this right at the beginning, but coped as it was my second serger. I did look at the manual! Never too late if I get it going again. But, it would have been great if this video included just a little on mechanical problems, the solvable ones for someone who is prepared to undo a screw or two. I cannot get to a repairer! Any tips please? Otherwise excellent!

I've had my Janome serger for 4 yrs. and until finding this video, had not been able to find decent instructions on the "stitch" settings! The manual is a total waste when it comes to helping one know correct setting for the type of stitch one wants. Most books and videos are not for Janome, which leaves one hoping they can adjust from another machine's instructions........NOT GOOD! At least this will help with the basics. I wish Janome would have a reference book that showed the stitches along side the settings! That would make using the machine so much more enjoyable. You could at least make adjustment from there instead of having to make so many changes, wasting fabric and thread.

Hi, This video was just wonderful. Thanks. My hubby caught his laptop leads up in my threads, so I had to re-thread the machine. (I've only had it a month). Since then, when I use the machine, it keeps snapping the right hand needle. On checking this video, I am now sure that I am threading correctly. So.........can you please offer any advice as to why the needles keep snapping. Not cheapy needles, but Janome, so that's not the problem. I'm pulling my hair out now, because I've snapped the five that came with the machine. Keeping my fingers crossed in anticipation.
@ArtsiRosi9 жыл бұрын
Hi, there. I'm sure you have figured it out by now, but I broke 5 right side needles before deciding to just rethread the whole serger as each time a needle broke I would just replace it and rethread the one needle. It worked! Needles stopped breaking.

Just push against the spring on the left hand side, underneath the cover that you slide to the left, and it will go out far enough to then pull the blade out of the way and tuck it down.

A great video but I have a problem. I have replaced a broken right needle and have begun to rethread from scratch. However I am unable to move the balance wheel forward to to continue with threading. I have inspected inside the cover and also connected the power but despite all this the wheel will not move. Does anyone have any suggestions?
@MopsyJay8 жыл бұрын
+Celeste Greeves Just a thought, but did you retrieve all the broken needle? any chance part of it dropped into the machine & is jamming it & preventing movement?
@vivlee38407 жыл бұрын
It is NOT clear with the green thread how to get it to the front after putting it back through the lower looper... it magically appears here for her to thread it through the needle... it's so fiddly.. any suggestions please??
@pennybramwell54414 жыл бұрын
I used long tweezers. However, the easiest way that I have found is to cut the working end piece off a plastic plant or cable tie, leaving a three sided rectangular hook, and then catch the thread in the improvised hook, after putting the thread through the hole at the end of the looper, and then push the whole thing from left to right, picking up the thread to put through the looper hole on the right! As it is flexible and not liable to damage the machine, I find it fairly quick and easy.

@katherinemartin59125 жыл бұрын
The presser foot should be in the raised position which will release the tension while you thread it, so it shouldn't matter what your dials are set to.

can someone PLEASE help me!! I have rethreaded my machine OVER AND OVER and the lower looper keeps breaking. I have tried better thread, different needles, threading in order...threading out of order. everything I do seams to fail. sometimes it will work for maybe 5 minutes and then snag and break again. I have no idea what I am doing wrong.
@dmallen4499 жыл бұрын
***** I think what is happening is that the lower looper thread is not going over the upper looper (the looper that does not need to be pushed out so that it can be threaded more easily). If the upper looper thread is not in the right place, your thread will break and you won't be able to serge. Look carefully how the person in the video sets up the two loopers. I find that putting the upper looper thread in first works better for me.

@katherinemartin59125 жыл бұрын
It's not as bad as it seems. And once you have done it once there is a trick you can use to "cheat" doing it again. You cut the thread near the spool and tie it to your new spool. then you gently pull it through the machine until the knot ends up at the needle. Then you just need to cut off the knot and thread the needle. No need to remember the thread path!
