A truly wonderful video. Back in the 1980s, I was a dispatcher working in the U.K. I ramped the DC8s of SAS, Scanair, Aer Turas, Capitol, Arrow Air, African Safari, as well as various other African cargo airlines. The DC8 was a beautiful craft. To hear the sounds on that video, moved me to tears, and I’m not embarrassed to say so. Thanks for posting it.

Back in 1982 I flew with fellow Kubota Dealers from Tokyo to London on a DC8 refueling in Moscow. Anchorage was snowbound although we had refueled there a week earlier. It was a very long version of the DC8 with six projector screens for the in flight movie. The Cannon Ball Run. It was early March. All we saw out of the window was snow. High in the clouds it was very smooth.

This clip not only has great footage of the "Super 60," but also the Series 30, the first jets JAL ever used, as well as the Series 50, the turbofan-powered version.

Ah Haneda airport where I landed on a Flying Tigers DC-8-63CF from Camn Ranh Bay RVN in June 1970 after an abort attempt at Yakota AB nearby which was fog bound late at night. We landed at were directed to a remote parking spot and engine shut down which without an APU ment total cabin darkness. I got off with one other passenger and the crew which was changing out and processed through Japanese customs and put in a taxi to the Yakota passenger terminal. I later came back to Haneda to view JAL's first delivered 747 which was the biggest plane I had ever seen on display near the terminal. Some years later attempting to land at a Bay area airport all of which were shrouded in fog and running short on fuel JAL diverted to the 5000 foot airstrip at Half Moon Bay on the Pacific side of the Peninsula. Stripped to minimum weight they got it out.

WOW Nice footage of DC 8 ERA !! I always will Love the DC 8 because its the first Jetliner I flew in back in 1967 !! Thereafter I flew all the different Models that were Produced !! Including the ones DELTA AIRLINES flew back in the early 80,s with the NEW engines and it was even more Powerful ! I liked this model the BEST out of the DC 8 Range !Thanks for the video clip I really enjoyed !! 😊😊

I had the pleasure of working a crewing some of these JAL -61s in the US, and In better times. Great memories. of a superb airplane.. Well done and thank you for sharing.

My first flight was onboard a United Airlines DC-8 Super 61 series in the classic Friend-Ship livery. Fell in love with the DC-8 immediately, the 4 big ol' Pratt & Whitney JT3-D engines. Thanks for the video my friend, good stuff indeed!

Wow! I'm only 6 minutes into the video and it's already one of the best I've seen on the venerable DC-8 aircraft. My first flight ever was onboard a DC-8 Super Sixty series with United Airlines in Friend-Ship livery. But I've always admired the classic Japan Airlines DC-8. Thanks for posting this video, some of the best footage I've ever seen.
