Deep within the mountains of Japan there is a town that made it through one of the countries' largest earthquakes. To show gratitude to the support received from sister cities in the US, they have joined a program called Arigato Host Town.
And today we tell the story of this one simple, yet amazingly famous spot.
A small, quiet town that is known to almost every Japanese person as the Japan's Ramen Town.
Shooting Location: Kitakata City, Fukushima Pref.
(“Arigato” Host Town for Supporting Reconstruction)
What is the Host Town Initiative?

while there's not much else going on in the town itself, Kitakata is just north of Aizu Wakamatsu where there's an awesome castle with a crimson roof (Tsuruga-jo, the crane castle), a weird helical pagoda called Sazae-do, the famous Ouchi-juku post town to the south, and the even more famous picturesque area along the Tadami-line to the west(i love staying around Aizu-Yanaizu). and a bit further north of Kitakata is Yonezawa in neighboring Yamagata prefecture. Yonezawa is one of the most famous wagyu brands in Japan.

I literally started crying mid video. All the images, stories and tenderness expressed in this documentary reminded me of my first brush with a bowl of ramen, when i was at a low point of my life. A very good friend took me to a ramen shop and we sat down to eat. I remember feeling as though the sadness and weight of my problems simply evaporated and in their place, an unspeakable joy emerged, like a warm hug from a grandparent that had passed on. This documentary literally pulled at my heartstrings, i'm such a basket case right now, but thank you for this journey. Arigatou.

@@TokyoLens I don't like ramen either. Wouldn't cross the street for it given another option (provided the option did not include mochi or bean paste), but you made me want some. Glad to have a compatriot in taste (and fellow Victorian) in Sharmeleon. That makes me feel less alone while in Federal Quarantine (after cutting short my stay in Tokyo). Thankfully I am not sequestered in a dodgy hotel room; however, I'm not allowed to leave my home unless it's burning. I think even the two toads who castigated me at customs when I asked clarify questions of what exactly I was and was not allowed to do would have said that was okay. I didn't ask because their whole premise seemed to be that I was questioning authority, not seeking clarity. God. Put a uniform on some people and they get bigger than Jesus. But I digress.

This was a wonderful documentary! Norm, I am partially deaf, so I appreciate your subtitles. Half the time I don't need them because your voice is very clear (enunciation). I really appreciate all you do and the way you do it.

There is really something about the Japanese and their lifestyle which really moves me. Their dedication to their craft and their ability to feel content with life makes me feel like the hold all the answers to a happy life.

Gosh Norm...your documentaries are so beautifully done. I live a very hectic, overworking lifestyle and your work always reminds me to slow down and enjoy the simple things a little more. Thank you so much for that.

This was great man. A lovely short doco. I love how you tell these stories. You’re really making it hard to plan a trip to Japan though, so many amazing places to explore.

The sense of "laid back" of the video match many of the towns (and no doubt Kitakata) very well. Definitely needed during these times we are facing.

The RAMEN itself reflects what kind of people are they in KITAKATA. I can see the owner of ramen was very nice and friendly to their costumer. A good comfort eating ramen with a calm environment. Id really like to come in JAPAN one of these days to taste thier authentic RAMEN. A dream of my life. ❤🤗🇯🇵 A very great video to watch .

I visited Japan for the first time in my life back in summer 2017, and while I knew it was going to be amazing, I wasn't anywhere near prepared for how mind-blowing it was. Anyways, your content has beautiful production and presentation, and you truly have your finger on the pulse of Tokyo. I wish I'd known about your channel before I went so I could see all these cool places myself. Next time!
