Japan vs. The Islamic State

The brutal beheadings of Japanese nationals Kenji Goto and Haruna Yukawa by the Islamic State in January have shocked the island nation and lent momentum to an effort to expand the limitations imposed on its constitution and military after its defeat by the United States in World War II.
Leftists in Japan fear that the incident will encourage a departure from the country's pacifist constitution, whose Article 9 states that "the Japanese people forever renounce… the threat or use of force as a means of settling international disputes." Right-wingers, meanwhile, see an opportunity to allow Japan to assert itself as a truly sovereign state.
VICE News reports from Japan as its prime minister and right wing are pushing for re-militarization of the pacifist nation, amid protests from the left who staunchly oppose any changes to Article 9 of the constitution.

In all honesty, World War II has been over for decades. Germany has it's army (largest in the EU) and is one of America's best allies. Japan has proved itself far beyond as one of the closest friends to the U.S, and a smart player in the region. I fully support them getting their military back.

gblueslover2 How can you seriously be this ignorant? The US didn't need to instill shit into them. Be creating a hostile, war-like environment, and destroying a completely stable region of the world, and funding rebels to fight against a government that doesn't agree with your "democracy", you've created the perfect environment for a militant group. Not to mention that the US funded the Mujahideen, who later became Al-Qaeda, part of which broke off from Al-Qaeda and became ISIS.

You are right, Japan is allied with us now, and we make up a large part of their military considering we have more than 7 bases on Japan turf, we protect them, and supply them with natural resources like oil etc. Considering they are pretty much all out, and they are on an Island. Japan WILL be allied with us if we go to war, the only countries that would side with Russia is other communist countries, cause communism sticks together. Vietnam, Korea, China, Russia, and some other smaller Asian countries, and some Arab countries. They would lose against us, but the world would still go up in flames, we have the majority of Europe, Hispanic countries, and Canada. Why I say Canada!? Because if a nuke was to go off, Canada is right above us... they will be effected, also France is allied with the U.S, and most Canadians originated from France.

Since Japan is no longer an imperialistic entity, them adopting a proper military might not be such a bad idea. +Sheob 多形体 Yea the video addressed this, Japan is practically like a U.S. vassal (vassals in practice are allowed to have defensive forces, but only enough to defend). The defense of the nation is practically up to the U.S. (in my opinion this is the worst nation for that treaty), but one of the men were right, if China ever seriously attacked Japan, the U.S. would be pretty hesitant to bail them out. I would say Japan's SDF could take on North Korea alone, but South Korea would probably help regionally. To me Russia is the least likely to do anything against Japan for no reason. If Japan ever chose to expand it's military I do not think opinions of Japan in the U.S. would dip enough to hate them for it (I would not be surprised that with a bit a push the Security Treaty could be revised). If Japan ever wished to increase its forces now would be the best time in my opinion.

The way that yakuza guy talks, you realise that despite being in the mafia he has no clue what war entails. He's probably been in some street fights and gets to intimidate others because he has a small hand gun. heck, he may even have been shot at. But he lives in a highly controlled and urbanised society and has probably never been through too much hardship. The thought of well dressed, over zealous yakuza guys being dropped into a middle eastern battlefield is really funny to me.

@sereysothe.a
@sereysothe.a 9 жыл бұрын
Atheistmonk lol the irony. you act like you know what your talking about. i AM a shia. my cousin lives in an arab country. my parents are from a country which is majority sunni (pakistan). the pakistani community where i live includes many sunnis as well as many many shias. and also, i have met my fair share of sunni arabs as well as even more shia arabs. i can tell you. a majority of the time someone named ali will be a shia. ali is the name of the first shia imam and the 4th caliph of the rashidun caliphate who's descendants were the 12 shia imams. now maybe now and then a sunni arab may have the name ali, but a vast majority of the time it will be a shia. there are other mostly shia-exclusive names as well. like jafar, kazim, reza, hassan, hussain. (there are other shia names but the ones i listed are ones that are hugely common among shias i have never met a sunni with them.) so before you call someone and idiot make sure you know what you are talking about. you stupid fucking *idiot*

I can't get enough of both side's chantings. So vulgular, yet so organized xD Edit: After a little bit of research, I kind of agree with the Second Right-Wing group. He doesn't want to use the deaths of his countrymen to fill up his agenda, but he certainly doesn't want it to happen to others. The left-wing has a point as well, since Abe could use the revising of Article 9 to be able to use the Japanese military in Foreign Operations, which would be too radical for Japanese Politics (not for us, but for them). Even so, the Japanese Military needs an assortment of equipment to aid their operations overseas, and this would cost money; a lot of it, and with the woe economy of Japan... I highly doubt the actions undertaken in such a short time.

All they need to do is rename the SDF into "Armed Forces" and aquire some offensive weaponry.

Japan has the 5th strongest army in the world only behind the us, russia, china and india, they just call it a defense force. They have battle ships, missiles, drones, aircraft and all of those are some of the kost advanced in the world, they have an army that makes the new german army look like a joke (saw people here saying japan should be like germany and be allowed to have army) . Not even talking about how south korea which also opposes china and north korea have the 6th strongest military and how the us heavily support those 2 countries

The Japanese have re-interpreted their constitution to allow for what they call "collective self-defense," which means that they may go to war in response to one of their allies being attacked. They never did repeal article nine of the Constitution (the article preventing them from going to war) before Shinzo Abe's retirement in 2020 but it is now understood to mean Japan can only go to war to defend itself or its close allies.

Japan should re-arm. Every country has the right to defend itself and have a military. We didn't dismantle the German & Italian militaries after WWII, so it really feels like Japan has been singled out. And also, there will definitely be some heart-burn from the Chinese about this that will need to be sorted out. The delicate balance between imperialism and pacifism can be difficult, but other countries all over the world have found it and I am confident Japan can too. It should re-militarize while recognizing and understanding the lessons of history and determined not to make the same mistakes again.

+Raptor302 Yes we did, Germany could only build motorcycles after WWII. Get real. We armed Stalin of course, then spent 70 years keeping the Soviets from Europe which was the reason Hitler moved against them in 1941 - and failed. You really think Stalin was a kind leader = no concentration factory death camps - Stalin didn't need them. He was given the bomb by utopian intellectuals who thought it would be a good idea to help "humanity". Actually, it did, atomic bombs actually stopped big wars. We are the experts in little wars - money makers.

SassyHershsey SassyHershey Okay, they were dismantled after WWII and then re-established a decade later in 1955. My point being that they didn't adopt a pacifist constitution that spanned over half a century. I admire the Japanese pacifist ideals, but complete pacifism is foolishness. Everyone has to protect their own backyard, and America has spent enough time and money covering for Japan.

Modern Japan is not like the Imperial Japan. Let Japan have their own army. We can't rely on to the US to defend us we need to defend ourselves. Just like us in the Philippines. I believe for a matter of fact Japan will have better economic security under the control of ISIS, in a way their will be a peace treaty between Japan and ISIS after Abe finish his term, I do believe that Japan becomes a Muslim country under the control of the Chinese government. Well this will be a Muslim will be PM of Japan and meets in China to sign a treaty of peace with the Islamic State that means the Islamic State becomes part of the Chinese government that means Japan's economic rennisance or say that Japan's strongest economy in years become stronger than ever as a Muslim country because of the Islamic State becomes part of the CCP, I do believe for Japan's better economic future is that let Japan be controlled by the Islamic State if saying if the Islamic State is controlled by China, then is better for Japan to be governed by the Islamic State for a better economic future.
