【Matsunoyama Onsen Ryo-unkaku】
Matsunoyama Onsen is a quiet hot spring resort nestled in the mountains of Tokamachi City, Niigata Prefecture. It is said to have opened 700 years ago.
The charm of Matsunoyama Onsen lies first and foremost in its unique spring quality. The spring water is salty and has an indescribable aroma like oil or medicine. This unique bathing experience cannot be experienced in any other hot spring. Because of the quality of the spring, it is considered one of the three most medicinal hot springs in Japan, along with Kusatsu Onsen and Arima Onsen.
"Ryounkaku" is a magnificent wooden ryokan built in 1938 and designated as a registered tangible cultural property. The guest rooms were designed by a temple carpenter, and each room has a different design, making them a sight to behold.
Although Ryounkaku is located a little far from the hot spring resort area, the beautiful Japanese satoyama scenery can be seen from the windows, making it a wonderful ryokan where you can appreciate the beauty of traditional Japanese architecture.
