My highschool (a very small boarding school) would play a variance of dodgeball called nationball. The deans and chaplain would play with us too, all fit men in their thirties. There was one kid who was a bit of a troublemaker, liked to mess around, and generally be a bit of a headache for the deans. One time when we were playing nationball, the kid was one of the last ones opposite the head dean's team remaining, so the head dean wound up and made a really solid hit. Like you could *hear* the thunk from a ways away. He then proceeded to catch the rebound, walk right up to the midline, and nail the guy again while he was still on the ground without missing a beat. One of the coldest things ever witnessed

A friend of mine learns actual Japanese in school and when they went on a trip to Japan, in order to apply what they learned, one of the locals said to them something along the line of "Finally some foreigners who don't speak like kids." xD You may learn the translations of certain words and phrases from anime, but no one in japan actually talks like that. I tested out of an entire year of college Japanese solely because of anime. I ended up taking first year Japanese because I wanted to make sure all of my bases were covered and I barely passed, but I was able to pass, and I thank 9 years of watching anime for that

When I worked at a summer camp, we called this “regressive pull”. Basically when a college aged staffer would be playing a game like dodgeball and he’s going easy on the kids but they start getting cocky so he tries to shut them up. It usually ended with a kid getting absolutely beamed. So we made sure to remind everyone before games to not give in to regressive pull, and that it’s okay for a kid to beat you at a game
