I'm turning the Feywild into a playable realm for our Dungeons and Dragons campaign, focusing in this video on a few encounters you could run, all inspired by Japanese folklore!
Thank you as always, and comment below any Feywild or D&D topics you want to see me cover!

Future subject suggestion: The trope of Blue And Orange Morality or the rules of reciprocity Reciprocity can be hard to manage at play time, so whimsical interpretations of repayment are useful to avoid grinding play to a halt. Rather than paying in coin and exhausting party resources, competition and games help to sidestep the time it takes to figure out who owes what. If there is time to work out the ledger, something abstract can surprise players and put focus on the rules: in exchange for accidentally hitting an ally in a Sleep spell's AoE, an energy drink (wakefulness returned). Even if it isn't something that *could* be repaid, fey can find a way.

In regards to the ice vampire, I have a few vampire Archfey, including one who’s an ally of the winter court. In my setting vampires can be influenced by what blood they drink, so you have distinct bloodlines of vampires with certain abilities, so some of these vampires were trapped in the Feywild and drank so much fey blood that some of them have fey traits like insect wings (mainly mosquitos) or antlers and stuff

I am OBSESSED with this idea! I had never even considered a fey vampire, but it works, and it adds this extra layer of creepy with the whimsical details. Great stuff!

Hey, I've also been expanding the Feywild for my players!! The main way I've developed it is by making things as weird, wacky, and wonderful as possible. Examples: a deer with multiple legs, large bird wings, six eyes, and a scorpion tail. Trees with branches that move like water. A river that appears to be liquid but, when touched, becomes solid. My favourite so far is a little rabbit spirit with a wide mouth with many rows of teeth, ears with a hypnotic pattern, six legs, and no eyes. They'll either creep your players out or make them super interested. Definitely recommend!!

@@feywildfiend Hey, I've got a ton. There's a valley called the Valley of Souls in my Feywild. Not because it has the spirits of the deceased within, but because there are tens of thousands of body parts trapped inside the earth. Faces, arms, legs, fingers, you name it! It creeped my players out A LOT. Even better when some of the body parts are still attached to living things.

Not really related to this video (except for the short part about changelings), I recently came up with an idea for the backstory of a Changeling PC in my campaign. He has no memories except the last few month and has no real control about his appearence. Instead he has 6 looks & "personlities" that the player decides at random or triggered by certain events (that was all him, I love this concept). His goal is trying to stabilize his form and learn about the "real" him. now my idea: he was send by some fey entity to replace someone but something in the "creation" of him got messed up and now he has the personalities and appearence of all those people that were supposed to be replaced inside but doesn't know why. It's not fully fleshed out but I wanted to share this idea (mostly for the cool concept of my player)

They did a Tales of the Crypt story like that. the guy is leaving the bar and sees a winged monster kill someone. The monsters sees him and make him promise to never tell anyone. After many years he tells his wife, who turns into the monster and I think the kids did to

I took the yokai anime "Morose Mononokean" and homebrewed a fey Genius Loci which is a living meadow that operates as a home base and fast travel by linking between known fey crossings in exchange for the party telling stories of their heroism. Functionally it's a Tardis

very cool idea to incorporate folk tale stuff from other cultures into a feywild campaign. if you havent checked out the dnd podcast show “the wizard the witch and the wild one”, it also combines japanese and gaelic folklore, with lots of spirit/fairy themes. it’s sort of like earthsea combined with princess mononoke combined with irish tales of faires. i think you’d love it

I'll be hosting an Aztec-themed oneshot for a group of friends soon. They have their version of the Feywild, and the party will be travelling there. The Aztec Feywild (will refer to as Otromundo) is enterable in two means: either turning into a Nahual (animal spirit), or through a dream. My players will enter a person's dream, get into the Otromundo and help the god Quetzalcóatl to recover their earthly body, as they are now stuck in their animal form (dog) in the Otromundo. Can absolutely share more info, just gimme a shout😊

@@feywildfiend sorry for the late reply; I haven't decided yet on what monsters to use BUT, the BBEG will be an Oni that locked Quetzalcóatl's tonali (spirit, will to live, drive ,etc.) and stole his body, which in turn will be represented by a dragon on his shoulder (it's as feather-serpenty as I could get with the mini, but I thought the body would morph itself to 'adjust culturally' to its master.

I feel like there should be something more unique to an icy Vampire than the usual live draining. Maybe it'd be more interesting, if they drain heat/warmth from their victims. And you could go several ways from there. Maybe the victims speed is simply reduced, basically as if they were affected by the slow spell. Or it drains the victims Constitution score, reducing it by 1 point per day, or something like that. Or they are affected by a custom effecs table, that works similar to the exhaustion table, where, with every draining attack, the victim adds 1 point to the severity Level score. So, just as an example, let's say the table reaches from level 1-10: Level 1 could be just discomfort, but has no mechanical effect. But add another heat drain for the victim to get a total of 2 points, so it reaches Level 2, disadvantage on dexterity checks due to loosing the feeling in your fingers. Reaching Level 5, their movement speed could be reduced, at Level 7 they start to halluzinate due to being hypothermic, and Level 10 means that they fall unconscious. Or you could just look up a table for hypothermia and use that for the effects of the draining ability, instead of just draining their HP.

I really like the exhaustion levels take! If the party came upon a place where a number of deaths were taking place under strange circumstances, i.e. freezing to death while being kept in a warm room, it would make for a great mystery!

Cool video as always! I have one favorite yokai: Rokurokubi / nukekubi. The idea of flying head is kind of silly but awesome. And players can do a lot of mindblowing things trying to wrap their head abot the concept of such oponnent: one creature but two targets! Also, not exactly the japanese folklore, but Krasue is my nightmare fuel. They are great because theoretically GM can disguse them using the image of "lady with hands/legs hidden by dress" using real cloth or illusions.

In my home game, we have a circle of druids whose primary goal is to keep the portal to the feywild that they found a secret from the outside world. I like the idea that these druids know that should everyone know of this large portal to the feywild those with bad intentions would exploit or take advantage of the realm in some way.
@feywildfiend
@feywildfiend Жыл бұрын
I love that! And it makes so much sense. They would absolutely want to protect the wild and chaotic fey realm from civilization, especially if they were in line with an archfey.

Stupid idea: Fae: Would you mind giving me your Name? PC: How about you give me yours first? Fae: You... You want my Name? PC: T'would be only fair, you give me your Name, and you can have mine. Fae: * stares * PC: smug, thinking they outplayed the Fae ... Fae: * blushes * You are now legally married to the Fae. Congratulations.

Two very cool stories that may also incorporate well into the Feywild: 1) The Jorogumo (kzfaq.info/get/bejne/mdJ6Y6mgstiYdIE.html) 2) The Shippeitaro and The Spirit of the Mountain (kzfaq.info/get/bejne/m9-liM-fqbTFimQ.html) Also, here's a pre-written D&D campaign straight out of Japanese myth, lmao: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/jb6jZspjpsm5k2g.html I wish I had more of my own original thoughts to contribute this time, but I don't. I am a big fan though! Please keep doing what you do!
