Ryosuke and I are in Utsunomiya right now!
Utsunomiya is affectionately known as "Gyoza City" (gyoza is a type of Japanese dumpling, similar to potstickers in America or Jiaozi in China).
This was the first gyoza restaurant we went to in Utsunomiya. To date, we've gone to four different restaurants (the other three were more "hole in the wall" restaurants). But since we were with Ryosuke's best friend from high school and family, I didn't want to record anything.
So just enjoy this video!

Yaaay, Gyôza~! My entire family loves gyôza and we homemake them every once in a while. I found cilantro leaf adds some deep flavor, something totally different than the one when it's uncooked. Shiso sounds interesting, too! I'll try it out next time.

We love gyoza. At a Japanese cooking class, Tomosan showed us to fry them in a bit of oil (1-2 Tbsp) then add a cup of water, cover and finish steaming them. They were great and I always make them that way now. Only steamed are mushy to me and only fried are too crunchy now. Loved the video!

In the larger cities of the USA, you can buy premade gyoza dumplings in the freezer section. They come in pork, chicken and veggie varieties. But what you are eating looks way more appetizing as the freezer kind we can get here all look like proceed grey on the inside.
