The Second Sino-Japanese War to be exact. Japanese troops are attacking Chinese Kuomintang forces who have organized a line defense while awaiting infantry reinforcements arriving via train. Not sure what I meant with Jingoists, I was actually thinking about the various warlords spread across the regions of Sichuan, Shanxi, Qinghai, Ningxia, Guangdong, Guangxi, Gansu, Yunnan, and Xinjiang. We encountered a glitch and a script anomaly. The script anomaly spooked me, I've never seen that happen before. I hope everyone enjoys the battle despite the minor inconveniences!

Just in case you get heat for that 'made in China' remark, Chinese-made weapons of the era were wildly inconsistent in quality. Some factories made good weapons, such as the Chiang Kai-Shek Rifle, which was a localized knock-off of the German Mauser M1924. Then you had abominations like the Hanyang 88. The Hanyang 88 was a Chinese version of the Gewehr 88. This beauty had an interesting aspect. There were many instances where the very first time the weapon was fired it would literally fall apart in the soldier's hands. If it survived that first round, it was likely a dependable weapon, but due to the extremes of the situation on China, rarely were these weapons tested at the factory and instead were shipped directly to the field. The entire Second Sino-Japanese War is a fascinating subject, with so many factions and elements in play that it staggers credulity. The KMT, prior to WWII, had at various times the following nations supplying them with either arms or military advisers: the USA, the USSR, Great Britain, France, and Germany. German general Hans von Seeckt was even responsible for the strategies that ultimately broke the Jiangxi Soviet and forced the Chinese communists onto the Long March. The elite troops of the KMT were those of what was called the New Army - soldiers trained by Germans and equipped with German-pattern equipment. Their discipline and behaviour was so odd to many Chinese that hey were convinced these men were foreign mercenaries. Sadly the New Army was squandered by Chiang Kai-Shek early in the Second Sino-Japanese War by throwing them piece-meal at the invaders. There is a very heroic stand by 800 of these New Army soldiers during the battle for Shanghai that is regarded almost in the same way as the Alamo is by Americans. Anyway, hope to see more in this fascinating series. Don't feel too bad about the long firefights: the Arisaka round was notoriously underpowered and many Chinese veterans claim that if a wound didn't kill you outright by hitting something vital, it was little more annoying than a bee sting. One thing that would improve the historical aspect of battles in China, however, would be less tanks and more armored cars. Armored cars were used extensively by both sides while the Japanese were almost the only ones with tanks in any great number prior to General Stilwell bringing M4 Shermans to the KMT after the US entered the war - prior to that the Chinese were following the French model of employing armour as an infantry support weapon rather than in independent companies or brigades. I don't have my source material at hand, but I believe the M4s Stilwell handed over were enough to form a division. At any rate, it was the biggest infusion the KMT had ever received of armour from any source.

The KMT troops weren't the new army, that was the Qing Dynasty, the KMT elite were the German Trained division or the Central Army. A notable example(the one in the game) is the 88th division

BTW, the Chinese didn't have many armored cars, most were in the 200th division.

I don't wanna sound autistic but some of the japanese tanks you used were Type 98 Ke-Ni. those were rather late war tanks (not used before 1943). It doesn't bothered me at all and is no insult, I really liked your video as always I also got a suggestion for an "asian" battle: do the japanese-soviet border conflict of 1939

im 40, my uncle is 61, we both watch your videos and both of us have a huge sum of random and solid information of modern warfare beginning in the spanish american war. what gets us is the lack of some common variants of tanks that are not out in the mods, also the fact that anyone jumping out of a vehicle with a pistol will pick up a rifle or sub gun asap. always upgrade the combat arm when able.

Even in Buddhism there are variations between Japanese Buddhism (which has aspects of Shinto mixed into it) and Chinese Buddhism. That said, the temple complex here could very easily be Buddhist which would, on a meta-level, be the same 'god', albeit in the sense of Protestants burning down Catholic churches during the 30 Years' War - same God, very different beliefs.

Piratejoe44 Religion in East Asia never really played a big role in peoples lives like in Europe, Middle East or India. It was more the philosophy and teachings from these religions people followed and China inspired heavily on Japanese culture. Filial piety, hard work ethic, self improvement and worship of ancestors are all shared by Japan and China.

I don't know if you will see this, but. You should do a continuation of the second American civil war. Being an American myself I found it profoundly interesting in the same sense as the show "Amerikans". In a twist of the universe the way of life as we know it now, could have been 180° different. It's interesting to see basically what are educated guesses as to how that alternative universe could have been.
