I appreciate this. Living in the USA many people unintentionally mispronounce these words so this helps a lot to learn how to say it correctly. One small thing that would be helpful is if you could say the word in English first and then repeat the word in Japanese 3 times and group them together by what they are like. For example, putting kicks one after another, punches together, stances together, etc.

Hi, sensei, I love your lessons. Please, could you tell me what's the difference between ashi-dachi, tsuruashi-dachi, katashi-dachi and ippon-ashi-dachi? What are the stances in Heian Yondan (kyodo 5, 8), Enpi (kyodo 15) and Gankaku (kyodo 29, 30, 33, 34, 40)? I just can't find this anywhere, the sources switch the terms, so i'm just getting more and more confused! As you always teaches things we don't find elsewhere, please help me to understand this!

Great video!!! Can you explain the differences among the various different kinds of kumite (like ippon kumite, sanbon kumite etc.) in a video? In our school we mainly do ippon kumite or point based sparring which is used for competition, but I would like to know more about the other types of kumite as well.

So I sit down with an exercise book and begin to write them down ☺️ thank you, Yusuke, good as always... Keep going!

@KarateDojowaKu

That depends on the dojo’s atmosphere. I guess if both sides has respect towards one another, the term senpai kohai wouldn’t be much of a problem!

Many thanks, Yusuke-Sensei. Onegaishimasu, I have one question about Ippon. I always thought it meant "one point" or "one-step," as in Ippon Kumite. I also thought that 3 points is expressed as Sanbon, as in Sanbon Kumite. Am I mistaken?
@KarateDojowaKu
@KarateDojowaKu 3 жыл бұрын
That's correct. The literal meaning is 1 point. However, it also has a metaphoric meaning for when something is wholly fulfilled. Therefore, as the most complete attack within the rule, 3 point attacks are called Ippon right now

I am looking for a Japanese translator who know both Japanese and karate to help me scribe and translate everything the sensei speak in class. I want them to learn Japanese in this particular context. I would compensate your time and expertise. Please let me know if you are interested! Thank you so much!!!
