I am from the UK and was lucky to be able to visit Japan last year end of November 2018 for 16 days. This was pre covid-19 The people are so polite and so helpful. They are so kind and generous and everywhere is so clean!

I can attest to the kindness of Japanese people! I was there a year ago visiting my beautiful military family and the two weeks I was there was nothing but politeness and respect. We went to a number of public places and they were all kind. It was somewhat of a culture shock for me. I loved it!!!!!!

It's definitely not genetic or anything. It's just cultural. Japanese people are typically taught from birth to think about others before themselves and to be generally collectivist. Western culture, on the other hand, preaches individualism and encourages people to believe they are special. Those are the primary differences that will determine how safe and orderly a society is. A culture of pride and ego-feeding vs. a culture of humility and self-sacrifice. Of course safe and orderly isn't the only goal of a society and Japanese culture does come with downsides, but definitely nothing genetic going on. Lol.

They place signs on platforms indicating the exact spot where train doors will be once a train arrives. That helps a lot in organizing queues, otherwise people would probably be scattered all over the platform.

@Viktor with a K This is it. It's not for human beings I'd say. I'm Japanese but I'd avoid getting on trains during rush hours if I can. I even missed one train on purpose when I came back to Japan cuz I was overwhelmed by how fucking crowded it was.

As a person who’s been to Japan and actually got to be on bullet and subway trains, it feels amazing how Japanese people implemented to be respectful and silent on trains! And if you’re a tourist who is visiting Japan it is crucial to do the same thing! Honestly, I miss going to Japan because of the trains themselves! I would like to spend all day on the train line and look at the views!

I see, their platform is much bigger than nyc so they can make a line (in nyc version, the queue should be only 3 max). I even don’t know how many doors and where it stops to make a line. Just a little wonder, I see that East Asian people seem to love line order. There are some restaurants or stores in nyc which are not actually good at price or delicious but just because of a few people making a queue waiting to come in, other people follow them and ignore the empty and good option next door.
