Cool break down. The song probably not gonna convert any western hip-hop/rap fans, but it feels like it has potential to bring in people in the same way Psy did with Gangnam Style.

I really liked "高級車は買える免許は無い愛車 (green, green)" - He's flexing that he can buy a car without even being able to drive, and he also doesn't *need* to drive, because he's always in the Green Car, the first-class seat, and slant rhyming "bling" with "green"
@TheMakoyou
@TheMakoyou 5 күн бұрын
Perhaps there is an ecological image of green in Japan, so that adds to it. There is no way that that R would not use double-meaning.

@jollyjenkins2278
@jollyjenkins2278 21 күн бұрын
In my previous studies and living over there, the "R" sound is beyond difficult for me to say in a Japanese way and not an English way, especially at the beginning of a word, but the "ladder" explanation blew my mind...no one's ever taught me that Five hours is a lot, but I'd definitely watch a full breakdown. Also, I'm starting school in the fall for linguistics and japanese, so the breakdown of the sounds and how they're created is fascinating to me lol
@OrangeC7
@OrangeC7 20 күн бұрын
"ladder", and depending on dialect, twitter, water, sitter, bitter, etc. all have that same sound. When I learned that for the first time it, at least personally, made it SO much easier to make the correct sound Edit: I originally included "mitten" in my list, but after sounding it out to myself and thinking about it some more, I don't think that word actually counts. I think it has something to do with the "-en"...

I was so looking forward to a better context/understanding of the lines: バレットなら満タン 関西訛り生身のコトダマ 音楽 幸運 勝利の女神 今宵も三股 bang, bang This song has a lot of really cool details you only get in Japanese like the "shedding your skin" part you mentioned, so it's hard to get the complete meaning/picture in a single translation without going into a bit of a language analysis dive. Anyway, great video as always. I hadn't been able to catch the hasamenai-hasamasenai !! But you're right, that IS a very giga chad chou flex thing to do! ^^

I'm not sure if it's intentional, but even in translation the 'バグで、まぐれ' is incredible, because aside from the obvious meaning of 'a glitch, a stroke of luck', translating it as 'a bug, a fluke' is also a pun, because a fluke is also a name for a type of parasitic worm that can infect humans. In other words, it's a kind of 'bug' itself

I never expected to see something like this, I'm learning japanese and still a beginner but I tried to translate this song just out of curiosity, I had a really hard time obviously and gave up, but I was able to catch on some really interesting rhymes haha. Seeing this is just amazing, it gives another perspective to all the effort behind a song, not only the technical effort related to music theory, but also the thinking it had to take to mix two languages and make it make sense while still sounding good. What a banger! Thank you so much.

This was really interesting, especially the fact that “to shed one’s skin” in English has an incredibly similar meaning of growth and change so you’d think that’d be the phrase chosen in the translation if that was the explicit intention, and not just an underlying feature of this phrase that was left unsaid in both versions.

I would love to see the breakdown of the entire song! Especially the "seven lights" that you can see in english covers of this song. Just like the rapper did.

@4:37, your point reminds me of a recent realization I had. While my wife was re-watching 'Lost in Translation', I thought about how meanings and feelings can also be "Gained in translation" from one language to another. This seems similar to your "naïve" example. A word might gain new meanings when translated or borrowed that weren't in the original. Thanks for another cool video, Dogen! I'm a native Japanese speaker who has been learning English for a several years and I'm just impressed by this video. I neither knew nor realized how grammatically superb the phrase , "バグで まぐれ" is before I watched this. At first, I wasn't really sure if I wanted to watch the whole video cause I thought the song is just going viral and feels cool only to Anime fans and bandwagoners, but after I watched this, I was like ”Is this video twenty seconds or twenty minutes long?" LOL Anyway, Dogen's explanation is so spot on, clear, and helps us grab the nuance of the lyrics. Thanks to it, I finally get how the rapper is divinely talented at choosing words to rhyme with delicacy and also loading emotions in his singing and rapping. HUGE THANK YOU TO DOGEN FOR BEING SUCH A GREAT TEACHER!!! So fascinating for even Japanese!!! FYI, my favorite parts of the song are ”教科書にない 問題集にない 超BADな呪い” and "漫画みたいな輩とまんまで張り合えてしまってる漫画 圧倒的チカラこの頭と口から”. They makes me just crave to sing the song out loud, though I still don't know what exactly the title of the song Bling-Bang-Bang-Born means...

何か面白くてつい全部見ちゃいました😂❤ 日本語の微妙なニュアンスを日本人以外に伝えるのはこんなにも難しいのかと、感心してしまった
