I clicked for help. Instead I got a weibo flex on fluency. Disliked and blocked.

I've heard so many stories of my senior's working overbroad, the number one problem with the people that work overbroad is not to speak Japanese properly those producing miscommunication and some unprofessional work ethics and some even got harassed by their own boss That's why i want to improve my Japanese to "minimize" those incident that might occur in my future working overbroad

Could you explain how to say: what do you call that in Japanese? I know how to say, what is that, but I feel it makes it seem like I don’t know the purpose of the thing. Thanks!

As for watching anime without subs, you don't need to know all that much to be able to enjoy it. This is because about 80% of communication (some claim as high as 90%!) is non-verbal. That means even with a basic understanding of Japanese (as little as around N4 level), you can more or less follow along by taking contextual clues, watching the body language, the tone of voice, facial expressions, and by inferring based on the sequence of events and past events. Of course, some anime is easier to understand than others, depending on the target demographic. This is great if you just want to enjoy anime, since you don't need to be fluent or near fluent. On the other hand, this also means anime is a poor way of measuring how well you actually understand Japanese.

You don't need to know kanji if all you're going to do is watch TV shows, listen to podcast and even communicate with others verbally. Being able to read Japanese helps with immersion though, since you are able to read and understand things such as news articles, blog posts and SNS messages that appear in anime from time to time. Sometimes, you need to know basic Japanese to understand what the characters are saying, particularly when they speak in a foreign language. One example is in World Dai Star, when Kathrina talks with her mother in (broken/old) German. I also find knowing Japanese helpful when characters speak in English (it's easier to read and understand the Japanese subtitles than the spoken anime English sometimes, as odd as this may sound!).

@Dogen the one about Japanese being a SOV language has me scratching my head. You said and put "My said teacher" in the subtitles but the object is the teacher and the verb is said. So if we are going by SOV then it should be "My teacher said" right? Is it funny because the sentence sounds awkward or that its wrong? I am confused, Please explain. Love your channel

Also, these timing talks are really interesting for people in the vocal synth space who often don’t have much japanese and are trying to arrange japanese melodies with lyrics into a MIDI, i haven’t really been able to explain why double vowels (like in mouten) and ‘n’ will throw a wrench in the gears, so thanks for this

I feel teacher isn't having headache because of lack of respect, but because he can see all the hassles he has to deal with in the future. Like, idk if Derek will listen to the teacher at all or care much about the fundamentals of the language.
Frankly I have thought the exact same thing, and have pointed it out to Japanese people close to me. (I wouldn’t consider pointing it out as overestimating my abilities though.)
I remember when I studied ancient Japanese in college. (Japanese people usually do not study modern Japanese vocabulary and pronunciation specifically). This video is very helpful for many people to deepen their understanding of the Japanese language. And he talks a lot of fascinating things about the Japanese language. I am very happy. Thank you very much!🫶

Can you explain this to me because I have a fear that, for example, if I learn words in context by using them in sentences with Anki, I will just memorize them in this context, and if I encounter that word in a different context in a book, I won't understand what it means or can this not happen?
