On the Bob Barker, a medic desperately attempts to treat a crew member who has developed severe signs of Hypothermia after falling overboard. Will he be able to get his body back to its normal temperature before the hypothermia worsens?

The second the "captain" gets his small boats back he retires to his stateroom without even checking on the wellbeing of his almost dead crew members. The idiot he left in charge says it was a success that they got back the two boats they sent out without lights, radios or flares, almost killing the crew members. No need for an after actions report, we got our boats back.

As a medical professional this was cringe city. "The doctor wants to see you." A) He's not a doctor, he's a ship medic (notice that when they were interviewing him,) and B) He's not very competent. Hypothermia is a medical crisis, and can kill even after treatment begins. The foil blanket was the only thing they did right. While they were still looking for the boats, there should have been IV fluids (including saline, dextrose, and electrolyte cocktails) in a warming container at the ready for immediate insertion. There should have been a TON of blankets also being warmed. Hot tea and fluids should have been at the ready. When he got there the warm IV fluids should have been administered immediately, he should have been covered in blankets including the top of his head, and drinking warm fluids like tea or water. Even if you're not a doctor, much of this is deductive reasoning.

Thank you. I'm a 17 year firefighter paramedic, and I concur. But I've noticed a glaring problem with their operations, and you are showcasing it here- for a group that is doing something inherently dangerous, they have no contingency plans for the inevitable emergencies that will happen. You're spot on about the care for hypothermia, and I'm shocked that the crews act like they were not expecting situations like this.

This show is the most overhyped for things happening. Some other ship is 5 km behind them and its a "close dangerous chase". Mild hypothermia and its a "desperate attempt" considering he said they would have to have gone 2 more hours to be in real danger and the guy was walking under his own power when they say they have to carry him. The biggest danger in this show is having hippies with no seamanship experience except their surfboards get on run down old ships and sail into the antarctic ocean.

For mild hypothermia, which this was, the treatment is to remove any wet clothing, cover in warmed blankets, cover their heads (you still lose a tremendous amount of body heat through the top of your head), give warmed IV fluids of either Lactated Ringers or Saline, and if they are conscious enough to hold the mug themselves, warm tea or chocolate (many wilderness medicine specialists frown on coffee, because it can increase heart rates before the body has been properly rewarmed)

I am this patient. There is a lot of things they didn’t capture on screen because it wasn’t dramatic enough. But I was certainly administered warm fluids and had heaps of blankets and well looked after the dr is an actual dr. But for ships records he was referred to as a ships medic. He’s a great guy. And the sad thing is the cameras don’t capture everything because if they did it’d be boring. People want to see drama and sadly that comes at cutting and editing of the event. I wish everyone could see what went on as they’d see the competency of the staff. We don’t just let any of bod on the ship we all have training and any emergency professional would agree that you can train train train but, the real thing can be completely different.
