I don't dig the shaky camera tact, although some of the scenes that employ it are still effective. I liked this scene despite the shaky camera, which often covers up the stage fighting, as well as allegedly lending the scene a frenetic tension, which I could do without. Shaky camera directors should pay attention to the fight scenes in various films like Atomic Blonde, e.g., the infamous 10 minutes scene, which is not a continuous take, as some might think, it's a class act as far as film fighting is concerned.

+Wavemanimawe I guess that kind of makes sense, but Matt Damon didn't seem to age that much. There was at least one shot in this movie where he did moves remotely similar to the choreography of the first three movies. He still seems at least a little capable of Filipino Kali. If the movie's story couldn't be that good, Filipino Kali would still look frickin' awesome the way Greengrass shoots it.

The underground fight is by far my favourite. In terms of choreography and stunts it’s energy efficient. No wasted movement, good use of trapping techniques which is the basis for close quarter combat. The fight scene is visceral in tone. Visually atmospheric, rapid cuts but overall editing is tight. Shaky cam yes but good focus on closeups which brings us closer to the action. Well paced too it flows smoothly in execution not too short and doesn’t drag on. Brutal in exposition and violence. Rigorous in effect. Great fight scene.

I think people who criticize this movie really should do themselves a favor and just watch this one scene. You don't have to watch the whole movie; just this scene. After watching this scene, ask yourself: what is the context of this scene, and by extension, the series itself? Bourne throughout his four films is on a search for atonement and redemption; he is attempting to make peace with his past and what he is. But in confronting the asset, he is not only fighting the very man who personifies the reason for his dark past, but in killing the asset, he ultimately does what he believes needed to be done. Jason Bourne takes a life. The very thing he has gone out of his way to do since he lost his memory in the first film. In that moment, he ultimately realizes being as assassin is who he is now. However, when Heather Lee approaches him at the end of the film and asks him to come back in, what is his response? "Let me think about it." This is NOT the same guy we left at the end of Ultimatum. Jason is considering coming back to fight for his country, only now, it will be on his own terms(Heather knows better than to screw with Bourne, especially after the film's ending). Paul Greenglass said before the film was released that this film serves as a climax to Bourne's story; a way to cap off a four film cycle. That is why it is called Jason Bourne. In what seemed like just a lazy title pick actually serves as the cap of this character's arc. What was the Bourne Identity? With this film, that answer is finally given. David Webb has finally fully become Jason Bourne, and this time, it is by his own free will. It results in what isn't the best film for the series, but an appropriate ending for cinema's greatest spy. You know, until the next film, possibly.

he was never really a assassin for the government. he detested it as well other assassins in the film, like clive owen's character. he detested his superiors and even his work succumbing to his death in that snowy grassy hill. he said "look at us , look at what they make you give." later in the first film he says to Conklin " i dont wanna do this anymore", he then tells bourne "thats not a decision you can make.".. Bourne actually says the exact same line from the death of the professor clive owen in the grassy field in the first movie; at the end of Ultimatum. when the mexican asset asks him why he diddnt take the shot. they both found out that killing for america being told who to kill, is wrong. in the first movie bourne diddnt kill wombosi because his children were around him. it stunned him mentally. where as krill the russian assassin from Supremacy would have just killed the whole family it is what makes bourne special. hes able to kill the other assassins because hes just so much , more. his ability to empathize even with his target is what makes him more than the other characters. its his intellgence is what makes Bourne interesting. he is extremley intellgent. in every way emotional, mental , Physical. he realized what he had done in the name of his country was actually morally corrupt. it was wrong. he was a never a killer for someone else. and there is a constant theme throughout the movies that he is redeeming himself and his past because his country made him a killer , made him kill innocent people with lives and familys and love. in supremacy he even meets with the daughter of the man and woman he killed on his first mission to russia . just to let her know that her father diddnt kill her mother. this is what makes Bourne the ultimate Hero.

The main reason for me what makes this fight my personal favorite in the Bourne series is that this is the first time he wants to kill his opponent for personal reasons. You can see it in Bourne's fighting style the way he throws heavy haymakers and each punch feels like he's trying to take the guy's head off. I still love the Desh fight in Ultimatum but the reason that fight doesn't hold up as well is because of the bullshit shaky cam. Wide angle lens action scenes are the way to go and are what makes a fight scene worth marveling at. I personally felt though that in the beginning the way he runs into that dude tackling him into the wall should of dealt a lot more damage to the Asset than what was shown. Also the guy acted like he didn't even flinch when Bourne stuck his finger in the bullet wound of his bicep. He would've been screaming, I don't care how tough you are.
@EelofTheTRIMS
@EelofTheTRIMS 5 жыл бұрын
Tyler Lawson i don’t think it comes down to how tough they are. The things they were put through to make them the great assassins they are basically rewired their brains. It’s plausible that they created a new way for them to deal with pain via brainwashing e.g something that causes constant pain until they kill the target so that their brain changes in such a way that there is an aggression response rather than a scream like a regular person. Just my two cents lol
@EelofTheTRIMS
@EelofTheTRIMS 5 жыл бұрын
Tyler Lawson As a side note they also mentioned that they get intense headaches which could be a symptom of the brainwashing they received.
@Creasy5678
@Creasy5678 Жыл бұрын
Agreed, but part of their training has to revolve around having an incredible, even inhuman, pain tolerance just to be able to do the job. You can see on the Assets face he's in agony from Bourne pounding on his bullet wound, but he use's the pain to drive himself on and very nearly beats Bourne down for good. In many ways he DID scream, just not outwardly. Also, both men had bullets in them and were running around after a violent high-speed pursuit through Vegas which would have put most people in hospital just to begin with while bleeding. Sheer force of will and adrenaline only keep you on your feet for so long. Their training at Treadstone rewired both their brains and their bodies to a degree I think most would simply consider inhuman.

@Michael Pullins Not exactly when those highly trained assassins acts and behave like dumb mooks and always proper give time for Wick to kick their asses. Anyways, I'm gonna state why Bourne would demolish Wick in a fight. For one, their physical capabilities. Jason is just too strong, too fast, and too durable. Jason is able to crush a grown man's neck, easily smash through car windows, and windshields. He can easily twist and snap someone's bones like its nothing. Able to knock out a large street fighter with one punch. He's also able to fall from very tall heights without much trouble. He can even react and dodge from the Professor's bullets. Lastly, Jason's fighting style is more effective and practical than Wick's. And most importantly, Jason Bourne is too smart for John. John never encountered someone like Jason Bourne. An Assasin that prefers stealth, intelligence, and a quick dirty kill over direct confrontation.
@Villenueve1101
@Villenueve1101 3 жыл бұрын
@Michael Pullins Yeah. Bourne is way smarter. He doesn't make dumb glaring mistakes like Wick. He plans, improvises, and shows tactics and uses his wits to easily solve his problems unlike Wick who would just go guns blazing like a maniac.

This underground fight is by far my favourite.

Vincent Casell as Victor Chevalier for Tekken 8: "I’ve discovered Tekken in the 1990s and I’ve really started picking it up when Eddy Gordo was introduced. He was doing capoeira and back then, so did I, so I was only playing with him,” said Cassel. “What I like about Victor Chevalier is the fact that it’s a French character in such an internationally known game. In addition to that he is very sophisticated and promotes, through how he is and how he dresses, a certain idea of the French elegance. This, and the fact that I had been called to voice Victor lead me to be interested in the character."-Vincent Cassel

Probably the most brutal and darkest Bourne fight. Because both wanted to kill each other, and Bourne wanted to kill him also because he wanted to avenge his loved ones. Also who came here after Treadstone series?

Even though it is not the best looking fight, I would say it looks the most realistic. Grappling with a clinch and then bare-knuckle brawl would be the way this fight scene would go in most situations IMO. And they still tried to make it look dynamic and frenetic with the close-ups and camera cuts.
