Really like the fact that you are talking about eating insects etc. and comparing it to eating "normal" meat. Especially because you are a vegetarian! Btw. there is (was?) a great vegetarian restaurant called "Amok" close to pub street. That's the only all vegetarian place I could find 5 years ago. Looking back I'm still surprised that Phnom Penh had quite a few 100% vegan places. - a fellow vegan traveler

Don't get me wrong: I appreciate You Tuber's who want to make travel videos for other people so they could get an idea about the place, but as a planning guide this video doesn't help much. For instance type you say 'coming of the main road': okay, what is the name? Google link would help. Night markets: okay, type in night market in Google Maps and you'll find a lot of them in Siem Reap. Including a link with the correct names of the ones you show in the video or with an overlay would also be highly practical. Basically I'm only sure about the location of the 'Art Night Market'. It's so frustrating to watch these videos and think 'Okay, that looks nice, I'd like to go to that place' but at the end of the video you still don't know exactly where it is. And another remark: it's a complete myth to think it would be ecologically of any help if everyone who is a carnivore suddenly would only eat insects. First of all: you would need to eat far more insects (40 to 60 grasshoppers) to get the equivalent amount of the protein intake in for instance a regular cut of meat. Second: insectologists (scientists who study insects) have already warned if suddenly eating insects instead of regular meat would become very popular you would create another imbalance in the ecosystem. Insects would have to be bred on a large scale in order to allow this, which in turn would also need a lot of resources (just like resources needed to raise cows or pigs). So, in the end this wouldn't help much. A very smart Belgian professor in college ('Etienne Vermeersch'), studied the ecological disaster we are facing for many decades and he came to the logical conclusion basically OVERPOPULATION of the planet by the human species is the main problem: so any real ecological advice should be: do not reproduce yourself (have kids), because it is completely to no avail even if the current species would be able to cut back on the amount of energy needed if at the same time mankind is exponentially growing. And another thing that is kind of funny: so called 'ecological' backpackers often state 'I'm a vegetarian' (which of course is of some help to the planet), but then instead they travel the world: the amount of kerosine and energy needed for mass travel is GIGANTIC. So, anyone who really cares about the planet: STAY HOME AND DON''T TRAVEL.
@kingrobert1st
@kingrobert1st 5 жыл бұрын
I really think you have got a problem with this kind of vlog! Are you aware of the fact that there are other forms of transport that don't use excessive amounts of kerosine? EG sailing boats, bicycles and of course walking. I have done all three and I'm really glad I didn't stay at home!
@JohnSolitude
@JohnSolitude 5 жыл бұрын
@@kingrobert1st You sailed, bicycled or walked from your country to Cambodia? If none of the above apply: I'm sorry but you used a whole bunch of kerosine to get there and added to the environmental disaster. I do not have a problem with travel vlogs, because I'm an avid traveller myself. I do however have a problem with vloggers who make all kinds of statements which are factually and scientifically incorrect (like insinuating if all carnivores would switch to eating insects as as source of proteïne this would in some way avert environmental disaster). Environmental catastrofy is for most part caused by overpopulation of the planet by the human species, no matter what they would eat. Often people want to portray themselves as "environmental friendly' to give or portray themselves as having a good 'conscious' but if you are in some way using airplanes or any kind of fossils combustion used engined (including bikes) for travel well you are adding to the problem, and certainly not helping environmental disaster in any way. What I'm saying is: I'm tired of all these people who basically simply want to portray themselves are environmentally 'friendly' while they are surely not. I would never portray myself in that way, because it would only demonstrate ignorance.
@kingrobert1st
@kingrobert1st 5 жыл бұрын
@@JohnSolitude Firstly, I'm not in Cambodia, secondly I stopped reading your comment because it was so bloody negative. Thirdly you know absolutely nothing about my life so don't be so judgmental.
@JohnSolitude
@JohnSolitude 5 жыл бұрын
@@kingrobert1st Right, go on with these kind of 'feel good' videos, because you don't want to feel 'negative', thinking that in some way you would be 'environmentally friendly' because you walk or ride your bike once in a while. What nonsense.
@kingrobert1st
@kingrobert1st 5 жыл бұрын
@@JohnSolitude You're the negative asshole not me...I really don't need to reply to you but if you insist, my sister died of cancer two weeks ago and her husband committed suicide a week later but you just carry on and bash people for not being environmentally friendly while I try to overcome my anguish and grief and look for something positive in life to focus on. Meanwhile I suggest you subscribe to Awaken with JP Sears. He'll straighten you out.
