My dealership did replace my cabin air filter at my 20k Toyota care oil change. They also had me coming in at 5k for my oil change intervals even though the book says 10k. I was impressed. All covered by Toyota care. 2023 Tacoma.

for anyone prepping to do this, I'd suggest having a larger 1/2" breaker bar and a 24 mm socket for the oil filter housing because those things can be over torqued by the dealership, at least mine was. this was the solution I'd found on tacoma world, if anyone runs into a similar thing

Great video, I'm 64 years old, and I only rotated tires on one car out of the Many cars and trucks I have had over my lifetime. What I found out is yes it made them wear the same, but it wore out all of them at the same time, so I never rotate tires anymore, why? Because I don't want to have to buy but 2 tires at the same time rather than all 4, It's a lot cheaper to buy 2 tires over 4 or even 5. I don't believe you get more life out of your tires by rotating, but you do get more life out of the set that way because the back usually wears out faster if you have rear-wheel drive and spin your tires when you take off or the front if you have front-wheel drive. And I never included my spare tire in the rotation, which honestly is probably a good idea, especially if they all match and they are all new. I'm going to try it your way on my new Tacoma and see what happens, I don't need a new spare tire, just something to get me to the tire shop if something happens on the road. I do carry a can of fix a flat and a mini air compressor with me everywhere I go, I even carry a tire fix it kit I bought from Amazon in all my cars and trucks so if i can find the whole I can just fix it on the road. I do a lot of backpacking and white water canoeing. Right now I have a dodge ram 2500 Toyota Tacoma and a Honda CRV which doesn't even come with a spare tire at all it just the can to fix a flat lol. I'm going to try it your way this time and rotate my spare into the mix until I get my spare worn down to almost time to buy a new one and see what happens, keep up the good work.

I blamed it on the 0-20 thin oil as the 10-30 oil in my other vehicle never geyserd out like that with the same drain pan. I have since put an Oil Splash Pad in the pan and no more Geyser.

I installed a Valvomax drain plug on my Tacoma after I bathed myself with oil on the first change. I scrimp on the cabin air filter because I open my windows and sunroof on nice days. The cabin air filter is largely superfluous with the cabin open. Even the cheap ones protect your ventilation heat exchangers.

Not a bad video, basically what I do with two differences. 1) Shop vac, connect to the inlet pull vacuum while you take off the the drain plug, you don't get any oil out till you shut off the vacuum. Lazy way to keep clean. 2) Do you not have grease joints on the Drive shafts anymore? I have a 2nd gen Tacoma and I lube them up every time I change the oil. I also do 5k miles or 6 months which ever comes first (use to be 3 months or 5k miles, but I don't drive near as much with my new job).

@@JasonExplainsThings how do you know that the current oil level in the transmission and differentials is correct? Do you have faith in the factory's procedure, and or in the dealership pre-sale inspection? Have I checked mine? You ask. NO! I feel neglectful in that respect. The all too (new practice) common practice these days is to have a sealed transmission, no dip stick. We customers are the dipsticks now days for allowing this practice to continue. And I have not checked the diffs due to blind faith that they got it right at the factory, foolish I know. This will change as soon as I return home from my journey. No, I am not driving my Tacoma currently. Now what about that transfer case, I have forgotten all about it, I have become such a slacker. 🥺

Thank you! But K&N filters let 30 microns of dirt through the intake. Not good for sensors. Best filter is WIX 3-5 microns. Techron should be added the last tank before a oil change. Not after a oil change.
@dalephillips8250
@dalephillips8250 Жыл бұрын
Thats why i won't us K&N. Yes they are better for performance and longevity of the filter itself but not for the longevity of the vehicle as it lets more dirt through.

For a front differential service you would need to remove it… but not for an oil change.

@@JasonExplainsThings Yeah I always just remove the two access doors before an oil change, but at my 60,000 service the tech said "your differential fluid looks good." I’ve got a question for you Jason. My dealership uses Mobile 1 full synthetic oil when they change the oil and filter. If Havoline is better oil, why do they use Mobile 1 ? I get free oil and filter changes for as long as I own my truck, (which is about 15-20 years or 250K to 300K miles). Toyota says to change the oil and filter every 10K miles but I still change it every 5K miles, so I buy the Mobile 1 full synthetic oil and filter and crush washer, so Toyota charges me $40 every time I’m paying for it. My 23 TRD Off Road is about a year old with 8,500 miles. We’re going to MT this weekend for vacation, so I’m sure after returning home it’ll have 10K miles on it. Since our dealership uses Mobile 1 full synthetic oil, will it hurt my 3.5L to use the Havoline for the times I’m paying for the oil change? I appreciate your channel and content.

Don’t use TRD or K&N type oil soaked filters. They allow a think film of oil to deposit on the mass airflow sensor and can affect the air to fuel ratio. Not only can that affect mileage, but throwing off the stoichiometric ratio can ruin your catalytic converter. Stick with a stock Toyota filter.
@JasonExplainsThings
@JasonExplainsThings 6 ай бұрын
All good points. Also since I off-road in dusty conditions it’s easier to quickly clean the stock filters.

YOU FORGOT A STEP!!! After rotating the tires you need to reset the TPMS so it can relearn the tire positions. Although, I'm not sure how that's going to work if you have a sensor in your spare. Normally, that's not the case, but you have an active spare that you're using in the rotation and the TPMS doesn't account for the spare.
