My dad was born in 67, he was a quiet guy from Dayton, he became a structural engineer and moved to chicago, but he died in 2015 when he was 48. i was 17, and I hadn't really gotten to know him that well yet, but i know hes in me and still watching over me. Husker du was his favorite band, and im so happy that he left me such good music to remember him with. RIP dad

One of the bands that created, or supposedly created, the alt-rock sound - they were rock.. but also weren't. Though you could say the same of a bunch of 80's bands, Pixies being the most influential but there was also My Bloody Valentine, The Flaming Lips, Dinosaur Jr, The Wipers, alt rock is a very loose, umbrella-like label.

It's nice to see a lot of the younger generation getting into this music. It's very hard to explain how hard it is to listen to this music after all these years. When you lived in those days as a young person who was questioning everything in life, didn't know what career you wanted to go into, had parents that were breaking up at alarming rates more than any other generation before, thought you were going to rule the world someday...when you lived those days look back now, the ache in your heart sits there and mocks the fact that you are now in your fifties. Then there are days when you listen and you're sixteen again and free of all the shit you know.

So true... I turn 50 this year and I have done so many things but not nearly as much as I had imagined. we were rocking husker du in the 80's, swervedriver in the 90's, recovery and marriage in the aughts, and whatever the fuck this last decade has been... now we are doing jobs no-one ever thinks of doing when they are 16, fighting ulcers and douchebag clients and mortgages and wives.... Fuck!!!!! Candy Apple Grey and Zen Arcade were not only prescient, they are MORE relevant today than ever... and RIP Grant. you were my mentor.

I first heard Husker Du when the Blonde Video Days came out & Jason Lee skated to 'Real World' off of Metal Circus. I remember vividly being stoked to randomly find Candy Apple Grey in a record store that same week. So different but so great. Remains one of my favourite records to this day. I'd put Crystal on every mix tape I made.

That's great point you brought up. Husker Du and The Replacements are two of my favorite bands. When you look at each of their timelines, you can clearly see how they were so genuine and weren't trying to be anything than just their unique selves. For better or worse (commercially speaking) it's hard not to be inspired by their uncompromising approach/ways.
@playlists80293 жыл бұрын
Back in the 80's I would buy anything on SST. My intro band was Black Flag, followed by Descendents, and when I got to Husker Du it was on. They were my favorite band and such an influence in my life musically, through the 90's as well. Shout out to Minutemen, Bad Brains, Meat Puppets, Angst, Gone, Soundgarden, Screaming Trees, and the absolute greatest Dinosaur Jr albums in their entire catalog. I know Sonic Youth as well but I was never a fan of them. SST and Greg Ginn have Hall of Fame levels of respect for their contribution to music as a whole.

So much respect goes out to this talented and dynamic trio. Much love to Grant Hart for delivering another gift that is this song. I sat talking with him on the front steps of the venue before a Husker Du gig in Montreal in 1985 and watched as he dug into his pockets to give money to kids who were trying to collect enough cash to get into the very show he would be headlining in a couple of hours. The only thing that equaled that moment was the show itself.
