Even when confronted he doesn't shoot you when he has the chance, in Rd2 he doesn't even point his gun at you during the breakdown. Tbh I hope that somehow he broke out, but there aren't good endings for the Vanderlin Gang is there?

He does point it, the part where he's pointing his gun in the air is him reluctantly trying to point his gun at them, play the scene at 0.25x speed and right after the random Pinkerton agent fires a shot, pause and zoom in on Javier and you can see his gun is pointed at them, and you can see him raise his gun up again after he heard the shot.

Javiers story is one of what happens to a good man when he gets lost in the darkness of others. That’s why he was the one gang member that it really hurt John to kill. John didn’t want to do it. Javier had a rough 12 years after RDR2

Javier was the only one of Dutch’s group that was hesitant to go against Arthur and John, that makes the “We we’re brothers, Family you and me!” And John’s response of “It’s like Caine and Able I guess, leaving each other for death.” From the first game hit so much harder.

Javier didn’t betray him or Arthur really, he didn’t point his gun at them in the final standoff in rdr2, he was just confused as to what was going on, so he sided with Dutch, the man that had guided them all for years, and before anything could be figured out the pinkertons showed up. Sure he didn’t help John and Arthur, but he didn’t betray them either

@@kazuo635 That was the voice actor's choice, which they kept in against the wishes of the writers/directors because he insisted ('Insisted?!') on it. Personally, I think they should have stuck with the writers' version, Javier's always been a prick of weak character, that's abundantly clear in the Beaver Hollow chapter and it's also supported by John's description of him in the first game.

Javier was a solid dude in RDR2. They actually made him really likable. You can tell Bill was always too dumb and weak to go against Dutch, but I think Javier was too scared to betray Dutch and deep down saw his flaws the same as John and Arthur. Even in the ending you can see that Javier refuses to point a gun at Arthur.
