In the years I've watched your PNG videos I always thought, "It's so easy to make beautiful videos in such a beautiful landscape. He should try that here!" Nice meeting you at HSF. I ran that tail wheel on my kitfox 4, and operated on a gravel runway. It only lasted a couple hundred landings before that inner plastic "rim" started cracking. Matco has a 7 inch pneumatic that'll fit in it's place, with an aluminum rim. It's a bit better, but an entire new tail wheel assembly allowing a bigger tire is probably best. I'm enjoying the vids. Keep them coming!

Couple tips: - Don't use duct tape. Get Gorilla Tape. Specifically the wide white tape will go well with your white horizontal and elevators - that's the area that will get beat up the most. Aluminum tape from the heating duct department at your big box store also works well. - Smooth tires will throw fewer rocks. A set of smooth 8.50s would get you pretty far in the off-airport flying world without breaking the bank. - Retractable car shades would fit up there well. They attach by suction cups and are readily available on the internet for $25 or so. I haven't had great experience with the reusable static cling stuff. It worked well for a while but not good for constant on-off.

Have you looked into Microlon to reduce friction in the Rotax? Used it in my Goldwing all the time. A little pricy , but it rwduces friction drasticalky. Dropped from 900 rpm to 1225 in my wing.. and in pressurecwash pumps redhced the temp by 18 degrees runningv24/7 Interesting stuff

You're clearly an experienced pilot (having watched your png videos) and I like the way you are approaching this new kind of flying, carefully building up and modestly claiming not to be an expert, it's a great attitude and I'm really enjoying these videos of your new adventures (I fly in Spain mainly in the Pyrenees) I noticed too that you've finally got yourself 'a propper' headset to keep the noise down!!! Keep the videos coming!!! 😃

Wow, that CAVU air is amazing. I captained a tour boat from Boulder City (Las Vegas area) to near Pierce Ferry on the Colorado River. A few miles ENE of the airport. What a beautiful area. And too bad that it has gone so dry. I ran a 65 foot catamaran with up to 60 passengers on an all day tour out and back. An amazing area. The clear air is especially stunning. I think that you will enjoy this area. The more you look, the more you see. Petroglyphs, Big Horn sheep, wild donkeys. Incredible rock formations. Don’t know what the lake is like these days. What a change from PPNG. Wow

I purchased your training course on the Kodiak because I was literally exploding my engine on start-up, and crashing on take-off, and landing in MSFS2020. You've taught me a lot. I would have liked to have seen a comment section at the bottom of each video though for questions about that subject, for the most part, I'm 100% confident I won't blow up the engine on start-up, and can successfully take off and land now.

Way cool! I'll have to check out that airport near pierce ferry. BTW that lakebed you flew over is called Red Lake. That is where the greater Kingman valley drains too and is the main source or our ground water. I've landed on that lake many times with my 182 and a few times with my musketeer. Only real hazard is that barb wire fence and random sticks. Sand is not an issue. Sometimes there will be obvious surface water. Also, a warning about our local "bushes" they are mostly sagebrush and the problem is they are quite woody and when they die the base weathers into sharp spikes. I put only tires with heavy duty sidewalls on my pickup trucks for this reason.

Loved the video, man! I don't think I've ever flown over this corner of the state, I always used the Blythe corridor going to California, so it's really neat to see this area from your perspective. People don't realize how much varied terrain Arizona has to offer. Everything from low deserts to high snow capped mountains, it's got all that, and everything in between.

PH=ELE+(1013-QNH)x30 ISAT=15-(PH/1000x2) ISAD=OAT-ISAT DA=PH+(120xISAD) DA - Density Altitude (ft) PH - Pressure Height (ft) ELE - Field elevation (ft) QNH - Field pressure (hPa) ISAT - ISA Temperature (degC) ISAD - ISA Deviation (degC) OAT - Outside temperature (degC) To calculate DA, you only need to know ELE, QNH and OAT, others are calculated. Compare DA with Takeoff distance from Kitfox POH and airstrip length and confirm whether you have enough distance to take off in NIL winds at MTOW for given surface (always use worse case scenarios). Clear skies and calm tailwinds!

I've walked the airfield at Pearce Ferry with a friend that's an avid flyer --- He has big plans to bring his 162 down from Idaho and hit all the small fields around here --- Recommend flying into Gand Canyon West and doing the Skywalk... I live about 4 minutes from Bullhead/Laughlin (IFP), if you'd like to fly over and we can do lunch at the casinos. You're lucky that the heat is behind us for the winter.... Hopefully we don't have all the winds we had to suffer though last winter so you can continue enjoy flying your plane.

the berms in the desert exist to divert monsoon run off from gouging out the desert and wrecking the landscape. Though I don't fly, I did get 1hr 30 min. logged years ago when I lived in Alaska but circumstances did not work out for me. I do enjoy flying but it has been in the commercial airline end of it. My Step-Dad did fly a Cessna 175(I believe) when we lived in Anchorage to go fishing so I did get to fly quite a bit in small planes. I look forward to seeing your videos and to follow your journey here in the States.....take care and stay safe!

Great stuff Ryan keep it coming. Fly into the Grand Canyon airport near sunset and stay the night. You will love the views. For sure do a hop over to Prescott and Sedona. If you get to Prescott and need a ride somewhere hit me up. I’m retired with lots of time to spare. Lived 17 years near Bullhead City and now 5 in Prescott Valley.

Amazing video as always. I now want to fly further and to more remote places. Thanks for posting.

Not off by halfway, I've got bigger problems. I'd say so. Really enjoy seeing these new videos of your plane and you are putting out. I've been thinking of selling my Decathlon that I got inherited from my Dad to get a little bush as you have so I can fly to these remote places but for now I need to build many hours IMO before I want to do that sort of thing. WOW. Final looks scary. Like I said since I'm new to flying I'd come in high with extra speed. Perhaps not the best idea but then again I have the option to go around if I know I can't stop by the end of the runway. Duct tape is your friend on fabric planes. I saw the short clip where you got the bigger mains but still the small tailwheel. Do both :). Like I said I am super excited to see more videos from your channel.

Great video, Ryan. Boy, anyone tuning in after a six month break from watching you would sure have a lot of questions about the PNG landscape!

Very coooool. You're def'ly gonna need some bigger tires and a more robust tail-wheel 😲
