I really enjoyed coming along for this trip. Lots of lovely scenery, suspense, ominous NOTAMs/TFRs, getting tossed around in lovely thermal conditions, and crosswind landings :) I'm getting the popcorn ready for the cylinder head temperature mystery special. Great job stitching it all together, and thank you for sharing!

You are not required to avoid transiting MOAs, even when they're hot. Restricted areas, yes - MOAs, no. Particularly on Flight Following, there's no issue with flying through MOAs - I do it all the time, and ATC has no issue with it.
@CanardBoulevard
@CanardBoulevard 11 күн бұрын
Of course not, but it's not exactly a smart (or courteous) thing to do. I was once up close and personal with some fighters in an MOA (at NIGHT) that was supposedly inactive, on a cross-country when working on my commercial back in the 1990's. It scared the crap out of me. I don't feel the need to repeat that experience.
@zeitlinm
@zeitlinm 11 күн бұрын
@@CanardBoulevard Well, I completely disagree that it's not smart or is discourteous. I've never had any issue with the military pilots, ATC, or the other civilian aircraft transiting the MOAs (which I see all the time as well), anywhere in the US. The military aircraft don't want to hit you just as much as you don't want to hit them and they have better surveillance equipment to make sure that doesn't happen. It's no different than flying in any airspace that may or may not be busy (Class B, such as Cleveland or Cincinnati, near you) or have fast moving civilian aircraft (bizjets, etc.). If you want to avoid them that's fine - but there's no need to do so. Hell - I CAN'T avoid them - the Isabella MOA starts at 200 ft. AGL right above KTSP. You may want to take a look at this: www.edwards.af.mil/Portals/50/documents/R2508/AFD-070103-052.pdf?ver=2016-06-21-080711-260 to see what the folks in this area need to deal with regularly, and why I might have a different view of MOAs from yours. My $0.02.

Hey Scott, try using those rudders a lot more landing in gusty x-winds. The Cozy has some adverse yaw so all the aileron movement needs some rudder action to help out. Might put on trailing edge fences too which improves aileron response at landing speeds.
@CanardBoulevard
@CanardBoulevard 11 күн бұрын
Hi Mike! I definitely was using rudders on short final there, especially when I had a lot of aileron in - if you look at my legs (especially the iPad mounted to my right leg) you can see me moving around. But I've seen some of your crosswind landings, you make it look easy! :) I definitely would not have chosen to land in that crosswind given the choice, but I'm glad I've had the experience to know that I can do it if needed. It would have been much easier if it wasn't also quite gusty as well.
@mikesatchell8317
@mikesatchell8317 11 күн бұрын
@@CanardBoulevard I was wondering if maybe I couldn't see how much you were using the rudders. I've found "feathering" the rudders works good for me to keep from over controlling. Some folks will land crabbed into the wind if they need to. The Cozy IV's gear is pretty robust and will take some punishment if necessary.

Great video! I've felt the same with the go/no-go decisions! I fly out of KPIE and giggled when you talked about big airports and complex airspace. FL is beautiful but hangars are unavailable! If you do think about moving here, get the hangar first! Our Velocity is challenging with CHT on climb-out also. I've done a ton of work trying things to cool it. We have NACA ducts and the cooling is downdraft with a plenum on the top of the cyls.

TFR = Temporary Flight Restriction, means you are not allowed to fly there. AWOS = Automated Weather Observation System, an automated system that broadcasts wind and other information over the radio.

Ok, I have some more time now. 1. Yes, I have changed my look to that of Erv Wiestien, the old anchor of Channel 7 News Buffalo. He died a few years ago in California, I am not Erv, and I had a creepy chick with a spider Halloween background from like 2017 as my icon, so, I figured I would change it up. And, this way I am dressed as an older guy in 1987, so, nobody will try to date me. Look at the suit. Plus, I love Erv... Didn't we all. And, Action Park, sad its gone... 2. Ok, the heat works. Operator head-spacing and timing, it was venting to the back. Roger. 3. Here is what I was hoping you would do. Probably, all or most Cozy's have a cooling issue and back in the day... Engine in, it runs for x hours, works well, and there is a temp gauge sort of on the dash. Rear mount engine. Not surprising. So, now everyone is recording second by second temp on each cylinder. And, there is probably a common issue among them with a zillion work around. Redesign the back engine cover, with an HVAC guy, in the Cozy Community. Bang out a mold for making it? Its fiberglass, so, a lay up, or whatever. Put some IDK, figure it out. So, scoops or cowl flaps or whatever, with cable like a throttle cable to them, and make them adjustable so you can add cooling, or removing cooling to get in a zone. Its an air cooled motor behind the slip stream. Its in a burble. So, stick something in there that will get out of the burble and draw air, and make sure it has a place to go. HVAC Guy. Then you have something you have contributed to the Cozy Community. and, Tracking your wife there and her flying threshold, right on, she is supper supportive but... 4. The gig is to get you out of that Cozy, and into IDK, a Meridian or something. You have a developing audience. You are not "A clown" like that dude who was unwatchable down in Florida... Buying this, ripping apart that... Danger close on this... Dead Man Walking. While he got cheered on... Your appeal is: 1. You build your stuff. Cool. 2. You have other irons in the fire. 3. Your wife supports what you do, she flies with you, she is not thrilled with all aspects of the flying. Cool. 4. You have this music guy thing on the go, which is creative. So is the proposed project here. And, then you have that to sell, it adds to the community, so, you are taking Burt Rutan to the next level. He would have with the stuff you folks have for gear now. Engine profile flying is the gig now. Look at the associated costs of it not being. I bet that was just considered to be the price of business and its a home build. Back in the day, whatever... Ok, the engines don´t last AS LONG, and, that's rear engine and it has to be home build-able, so... And, Next Project, this one works. Now they are "A Thing¨. So, contribute your "Thing" to that thing, in the community... Then, monetize that and the reputation that comes with it, across the community, and... IDK, I did a pitch for a Friends Reboot a few years back. The TV Show. Only Phoebe, however you spell that, had any money. She had a "Van Life Channel" on You_Tube. So, the idea was that that couch from the start of it was in a park, like in the 1990s. And, the other three were living on the couch, in the park. There is a full story arc to this.. And it comes back to the Couch again in the final episode. Everyone shows up there and it never moves. But, life moves on, and one day, nobody shows up, in the show. And, a while later, the couch gets picked up by the garbage crew. Shows over. I am going somewhere with this. Throughout, Phoebe is PRETENDING, she is still living in this "Fing" Van. S he is loaded. So, the other Friends, keep busting her faking her van life. Having a studio in her mansion. Having to moved to different locations for filming, but claiming she is still living in the van... That's how she eats right. Its funding the reasons she doesn't live in a van. But, no Van Life, no paycheck. You want your Cozy to be like that Van. So, maybe keep it around, but you may in real terms need to trade out of the Cozy eventually. Don't ask, I pitched it in a rolling consultancy for a different industry. Who knows though. If you use the Friends Reboot, it will probably work. There is more to it than that, obviously, and Mathew M there up and died making it more difficult. But, PM Trudeau will probably be looking for work MAYBE, before long, and he knew Mathew McConaughey. They went to school together, in fact, Mathew M, at one point beat the PM of Canada up, in school. So, the original pitch, was he could show up on the couch, since they know eachother, and say, PM Stuff. Explain aspects of things, they agree or disagree. He leaves. But, its still that couch in the park... This is a during the pandemic pitch. Regardless, he is probably going to be looking for work soon. Maybe... Who knows, he is a Trudeau. Canada USUALLY changes out their PM at around the 10 year mark. They look similar, just saying. And, they actually knew eachother, and he is a theater background. They usually move to the US anyhow, look at "The Chin¨. Unless its to Swainigan with Jean Poutine... We should not discuss that though, or he might give us, "The Swainigan Handshake." If you roll with the aircraft part, slick. If you reboot friends though contact, I get paid. Or we might both have to go see Uncle Jean Poutine, and both get the Handshake... I don´t live in the great white north currently either, and for years. Nice flight, I think that if you had a round table with other Cozy Owners, its a design thing from another time. Its a home build. How would they even measure that back in the day? And why would they? Compression test, its out of SPEC, ok, they cycle engines slightly faster but its not a 172, so... What do you want? That is the design philosophy on it, business side. You run into that its a home built aircraft constantly. Get it together, get in in the air. In that time-frame if they wanted it to be perfect, they would just buy a Beachcraft or something. With the tools available, why not take your skills and level it up. That one dude you did the whole episode putting us to sleep about aspects of the... WHO CARES. People drill down and down, and blah blah blah blah... WHO CARES. Meanwhile, they probably need a engine cowling redesign... Talk to an HVAC Guy. Not someone in the aviation track plan. Its an HVAC issue. They will pull out a calculator and tell you why. The drill down experts tend to rotate in place... Then, market it, or the kit to build it. Limited Market though. Nice trip. It looks like you had a good time. Aviation isn't my bag... Not that end of it anyhow. Unless we had to get one in somewhere, which... Zoomies. What is with zoomies? Later. There is something to consider... If its a hand off, you clearly get a finders fee. Just sayin. Jamie Of South of the Amazon. I don´t pretend to be Erv Weinstien... I just use that icon. For now. You say comments help right? Correction, Matthew Perry. Right, Chandler... TV isn't my bag either. Like you are not an Areo Engineer, they get into track plans... Innovation stalls. - I know the details are the Aero are important, but its a wee rabbit hole and its clear dude just likes to talk so he can tell people they are wrong... Yawn.

I’m sure you’re an experienced husband, but I think you forgot the cardinal rule. Never ever ever say in public that your wife complained about anything. You will pay for that. I know you didn’t mean it in any disrespectful way and I’m just giving you a hard time but your wife’s probably gonna give you a hard time too. I do understand the irony of the situation your damned if you do you’re damned if you don’t. It’s either too cold or it’s too hot. But your wife seems very pleasant and the fact that she didn’t complain at all, and simply waited until you asked and then told you that it was too hot makes that clear. if I recall repair video about the heat, you have a cable that I assume you can use the air it’s only allow some of the hot area to regulate correct?

@CanardBoulevard 4 күн бұрын
I'm safe, because she doesn't watch any of these videos!! :) I have two cables that I installed actually, one of them turns the heat on, and the other changes the output of the heat between the front and the rear (or both). Oh, and yes, 20 years experienced :)
