Was parked up on Mulholland and Outpost on my little Yamaha 125 back in 1980 watching some guy driving back and forth in what looked to be a flying wedge. It was Jerry Weigert filming a commercial on his Vector supercar. All of a sudden a Honda CBX pulls up and parks right next to me and it was Jay, long before his tonight show gig. We chatted a bit about cars and bikes while watching Weigert in his Vector and it became evident we shared common interests. I was about to put on my helmet getting ready to leave and Jay asked what I was doing the next couple of nights, following that with "I'm at the Ice House in Pasadena. Bring your wife or girlfriend and just tell the back door bouncer you're there to see Leno with an 'L' which was code for friend and they'll let you in. I took my then girlfriend, now wife and we had had an absolute blast! As the years passed, Jay ended up buying an old friends Bugatti Type 37a. I last saw Jay up at Newcombs Ranch on Angeles Crest and remided him of our chat session some 40+ years prior. He immediately lit up and remembered, even mentioning details of our convo I had forgotten. Great Guy. Sharp as the proverbial tack.

Ya gotta hate seeing your heroes age. Hearing Jay do one of his legendary little anecdotes like that is such a joy, yet there's a strain to it and a lack of tact that comes with age and it just feels like a punch to the gut. And while Jerry's cleaned himself up and still has that fire burning hard, it's clearly just around the corner for him too. Seeing these two just joke and reminisce makes me feel like a kid again. The world is such a different place, but it's so comforting to see some things never change... it keeps me grounded when all the world is unrecognizable. If they're still here, that must mean everything is normal and I'm still here too💪

Jerry really is a living example of positive mindset breaking the laws of physical reality. He's noted for eating a lot of cereal, which most people with nutritional knowledge will tell you is the worst thing you can eat other than french fries. Yet he is thin, vibrant, sharp, healthy. It absolutely has to be a mental thing. He's one of the happiest people in existence, his job is to just think all day about things that are funny and how to express them to people. A true gift to humanity, long live Jerry!!

Love Jerry Seinfeld, LOVE Jay Leno. Interesting to hear some insights in their friendship through the years and their mutual respect. Cool to see Jay's wife still laughing at his jokes. I always enjoyed hearing Jay talk about his wife, Mable: Jay told a story that he would walk up his driveway to get the newspaper but Mable didn't want to go with him, afraid someone would see her in her robe. Jay would reply: "No one is ever up there on the road!" One morning Jay came back with the newspaper: "You'll never guess who was out walking on our street". It was William and Kate, out for a stroll to check out the expensive homes!

It really is a special moment when you realize they have been friends working in the same world since 1978. Both really did keep rocketing upwards and doing very well. It is funny to think at some point Leno as the 'big star' but few would have recognized his tag-along buddy or though Jerry was his assistant. a decade later, Jerry would have been nearly the most recognizable celebrity on the planet and maybe they thought Leno was (well actually he was always well known) but Jerry eclipsed the sun.
