This guy has so much energy. He 100% plays while you’re trying to show the bassist a riff.

You know, you have no reverb of mention or delay, and BRAVO for being raw and in your face, all in, and guitarists know exactly what I am talking about here! Very sweet sounding pickups here, considering them, and rolling down the volume and KEEPin the integrity of the tone is what I am looking for, just like what my idol Jimmy P gets when he jams, GREAT job, and thanks for sharing!

You're having fun...the best type of playing. Add in the fact you are covering the basic styles of blues, jazz etc...diversity is key. Pickups, guitar, amps and strings all create unique tone, but a humbucker can be tamed down or opened full throttle and still get any job done. If you can't play at this level... don't worry about equipment. Practice and have fun exploring as to keep from getting stale...then add the better gear like humbuckers. I enjoyed this video, but it displayed more about music styles than pickups...although you touched on them. Thanks for your energy!

I like the punchy for a lot of the rock stuff I write and play, but the jazz and twangy both feel like they're more applicable generally, maybe more versatile. Not as big a fan of the twangy sound in single coils, but it's brilliant with PAFs

Love your videos, but they get expensive for me.... You sold me a set of Twang Tone Specifics that I dropped in my "beater" Tele (started as a MIM, now the only original parts are the body, bridge, and control plate) and a set of Tone Specific Blues that I put in my Nashville Tele modded to be able to play just the neck and bridge PU like a Tele is supposed to do. Still digging the pickups in both as much as I did the day I put them in. That's rare... The Nashville still has the stock mid, which I don't hate, but it's going to get replaced at some point; if you've got a suggestion I'd definitely give it a look. Anyway, I really enjoy your playing and pickup analysis/review style. Great descriptions and the "this is what this pickup does best" is spot on. Wish you had included the Bloom Buckers in this video. Maybe you could do one with them and the Virtuosos soon?

JayLeonardJ knows what he’s doing with his guitars and videos more than most guitar channels with ten times the subscribers. He’s a better player imo too flat out than many of the big channels, I’d pick him for session work every time. Plus he’s got great energy, it’s like as if Christian Slater would just pick up a guitar and start laying down grooves.

Subscribed! awesome energy and great playing! I love how you're so eager to play that you don't have time to finish sentences haha. This was helpful because I'm looking to upgrade my PRS SE with more pro pickups. (As a classical guitarist I haven't felt the need to pay 2000-3000$ for a pro quality electric if I can upgrade the decent cheaper one I already have )

I bought a set of Bare knuckle Mules and put them in a Vintage V100 (Les Paul copy, very heavy) I then put them in a ES339 and finally in an Ibanez ARZ, they sounded different in every guitar so I dont think you can give a one size fits all recommendation on pickups.

Hi JLJ, what model is that FGN Les Paul? I have an FGN LS10 and an LS20 which I bought within the last three years, but the cutaway horn on my guitars is sharper, whereas yours looks more like a traditional Gibson horn. Is it an old FGN?

Perfect, exactly what I was looking for, for comparison. Thanks so much. I first came across you in a video with Thomas Blug. Since then I've seen you play SO MANY different styles. Did you build your mental library of all these different styles by purposeful planning, or are you just one of those weird people who has some type of photographic/audiophonic memory? I've forgotten 90% of the material I've learned. lol

I haven't yet. I will be doing it end of May. I'm still deciding. I have about 3 top runners I'm in final steps to make a choice. I'm down to Seymour Duncan pearly gates set or whole lotta humbucker set. Or bare knuckles the mule set.

These are pickups you’ve wound? That’s fine but I think your use of the term PAF is a bit vague and misleading. These are not PAFs, quality notwithstanding. I think you should be more clear about that.
@JayLeonardJ5 жыл бұрын
Heyo, the name of the company that makes the pickups are "Tone Specific" and they call their Humbucker lineup their "PAF Humbuckers".

JayLeonardJ probably legal, but the presentation is either misleading or assumes too much. Just my opinion. Others may feel differently.
