In HQ for the first time. T&D actually won a few judges from Min & Mo here.

So young here but so so talented. Look at their exquisite footwork. Simply amazing. There’s no one like them.

Even here when they are so young, you can see their excellent footwork, speed and transitions/lifts that fit in so well with the music.

I sometimes think they came out of the womb with skates on. They are so young here and still so dynamic and perfect. I love them and can't get enough!

Jayne and Chris are so young here. Yet you can see the beginnings of their brilliance, their excellence. It is like they transcend the ice. So wonderful! I find myself holding my breath sometimes when they skate. Their scores should have been higher for sure.

This is so long ago (I'm only a year younger than Chris)... but, it is exquisite! Beauty and strength. Poetry on ice and unbeatable, even by today's standards. Torvill & Dean are unbeatable a phenomenon, like a shooting comet, never to be repeated, not in this lifetime. I remember watching them in their first Olympics, they took the world by storm and captured eveyone's imagination. Jayne is a Goddess on the ice and Chris is a Knight, like Lancelot ravishing us with his eloquent strength...and he takes my breath away. Sigh..🔥

That's a rather potent image, zeno. But I hear you. I try to give them equal attention, but my eye keeps wandering over to Chris. Very often they skate so beautifully that I find myself with tears in my eyes.

Seeds of greatness. Fred and Ginger on Ice! When Chris and Joyne do a "trick" it is an integral part of the choreography, not as today just a point getter.

I love those Japanese commentators and their cries of awe- even though I don't understand a word

The Japanese commentators are NHK announcer and Fumio Igarashi (male single skater). Fumio Igarashi says that Torvill and Dean's choreography was done by the male Torvill, but it is actually Dean who is doing the choreography.

So precise and inventive while still so very young.and without the ridiculous reckless lifts and throws that I've come to despise. This is true ice dancing.

At 5:40, Chris kisses Jayne on the cheek. So sweet! And at 5:49, Jayne places her hand on his knee while they wait for their marks. They were both so fidgety waiting for the results, way before they developed their poker faces. Hands down, their performance was brilliant.

Some elements are taken from the skating programmes of Russian skaters. They are performed very well. Brilliant skaters.
Loved the choreography, but STILL the last move ruins it for me. But their "greatness" was absolutely there already!!

I love them so much fans, if l could have all the money in the world l want, l would spend them all by bringing skating dancing lessons every single school of every single neighborhood of every city on this planet, Kids deserve to have fun just this cute, can you imagine it fans? Get in action everybody for new sports partnerships. Have you ever tried to check how many students are there in a school? 200? Two thousand? Twenty? If there is a skating club of 50 kids, there are left behind a lot of other students free to enjoy other sports except skating, if only should be this will to play with Kids and let them grow happy, just like sport champions always on the top of the world fans

Does anybody know what "NHK" stands for? And what was the (approximare) date of this competition? I think they used some of this music aagain later...
@mhand006 жыл бұрын
NHK is Japan Broadcasting Corporation. The acronym is the English letters for the Japanese name: Nippon Hōsō Kyōkai. Source: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/NHK. Its a collection of different old songs that they used for each part of the dance. This was before they started using one continuous peace of music for the full performance. They skated the same music and dance in the 1980 winter games free dance so this 1979 performance in Japan may have been a previous attempt. The 1980 video, with a much better finish:): kzfaq.info/get/bejne/nOCVpNWCrN_Jj4k.html

It is not the Nebelhorn Trophy, which is in Germany, and is now part of the Challenger series. This is the NHK Trophy, first year, which is in Japan and is now part of the Grand Prix series of competitions.

@@MsCatreona Everything your comment mentions is incorrect. Since when has NHK (as, the video title outlines) been 'Europeans' or 'Worlds'?? The costumes they wore at Europeans and Worlds were green.
