Jaysbigadventure BMW K1600 GT Ball joint replacement

Here at Jaysbigadventure, we dig WAY into the guts of our BMW K1600 GT to replace the ball joints. It started off as a simple wheel bearing replacement, and ended up having to disassemble a large portion of the front of the motorcycle. This basic procedure will be similar for most modern BMWs, 2005 and up. Jaysbigadventure is all about BMW cars and Motorcycles. Follow us as we bleed on multiple projects!

Feel your pain. I advocate front wheel bearings should be a scheduled maintenance replacement at no more than 40k miles. Thanks for posting GREAT video shots! Really curious about what went wrong during the reinstallation. Hope the other video is posted soon.

I probably could have done it without taking the whole front of the bike apart, but thought it would be a good experience. Apparently you can just take the dash off and access the top link from there. Anyway, made for good footage if nothing else!

Going in that far, might as well upgrade the suspension/shock too. I went with the gas tank removal method instead of upper fairing removal when I pulled the front fork assembly.

Wow, great video and what a job! I am very grateful as I need to get my guage cluster out just to try and clean and reseal it as moisture is getting in. I am also replacing the GPS cradle and wires, I asume its easy to trace the two plugs that split off the one cable. Seems to go to the right side of the tank from what I can see?

I can't find the link describing what you screwed up? The ball joints on my '12 GT are bad and I'm trying to decide if I want to tackle the job myself. I've had the headlight out before so I'm comfortable to that point.

I forgot to put the spacer back in the front wheel when I put everything back together, lol...

Age or miles for the front bearings? Which comes first? I have a 2012 with low miles and would lIke to know if I might need to replace them. Also thank you for posting your work. As always BMW stands for Bring More Wads of cash.

The bike is a 2012, and it just turned 61k miles. An ignition coil is the only other failure I've had.

Yes, and I have several videos on my experience. Look for the K1600 play list. 15k miles and half the cost. Pretty good deal, and I still scrape the pegs on a regular basis.
