The genius and tradegy of the roaring 1920s dipicted many of the musicans who suffered horrific life-styles that soon consumed them with depression, depravity and early death. Bix much like Chet Baker who came two decades later, could never turn down a good drink or good song to calm the pains of musical genius and the madness of a profession that takes you ultimately down to the bitter road of decadence and death. Bix once said " I never feel the same way twice." regarding his attention to the melodies he often played. He also remarked " I go to hell to hear a good band play." His legacy and life ended way to soon.

I'm really enjoying this, Joe! Are ( or were ) you among the players in this video ? The picture of you shown here looks something like the cornetist in the B. B. Jazz Band . At any rate, there is so much vitality in this music--and modern sound, too!!! Also, here the musicians aren't limited to 3 minutes per selection, as was the case with the original recordings.

This is some great music; it reminds me of the good old days when I and my husband used to come every July. I loved walking back and forth from Danceland and the Col. we also loved the park. Love that trad jazz! when we were stationed at Scott AFB and Ft Dix, we used to go s lot. We went to RAF England, came back and there's no Danceland or Col anymore. Did they burn down?

Yeah, we were " Patrons", or something like that. You pay one price, got a pass and you could come and go as you pleased to any event, plus had got seats, and the one time it rained briefly, we were covered ( in the park) We were the youngest at the time, and always dressed roaring 20s style. Now, we're almost approaching senior age. We started going in 1998, when we got assigned to Scott AFB. Do they still do tours to Bixs old house on Grand Av?, and his resting place? I still have all of my old newsletters, even the old ones made like newspapers and the newer ones from regular paper, just like going back in time, I love trad jazz, even when I was a kid, my father liked it, plus it seemed background music for all the old cartoons and the little rascals. I also like bebop and Klezmer.

jazzmanjoe, I have been enjoying your great videos of my favorite jazz bands for some time. Recently, all of the CD players in my house stopped working, so I am totally reliant on your youtube videos now! Iowa Public radio filmed me and my husband dancing at the LeClare Park. We saw it on public tv here in Chicago, but when my husband called to ask for a copy, they said they had too many recordings from the fest to be able to determine on which one we were seen dancing. Oh, well, I have great memories of our dancing at various jazz festivals. My husband just passed two months ago.

great music, lovely close ups of band members. We do not have any BBC TV broadcasts in England, since late 1960 ,so no chance of recording any concerts from TV broadcasts.I live on an East coast seaside resort. I just make videos from a cinema that holds monthly jazz concerts in Harwich, Essex. The lighting in the auditorium is dimmed, also black curtains around stage; so not easy to get a good video. Please feel free to look at my clips on # tradjazzer # appreciate any comments.

Am a great lover of hot Jass . With the olde timers from New Orleans and Chicago, can name most of those musicians just from photos. Not quite as good on West coast guys, the Lou Watters groups and of course Kid Ory ended up there. Contemporary best groups are Andy Schumm and Joan Chammaro (Spanish jass band). Both groups have the best clarinets going. Frisco style music would be Bob Schultz who played with Turk Murphy. Got to shake Murphys hand in Boulder Colorado Mall where I worked. Shcultz started out in a Sun Praire Wisconsin Shakeys Pizza parlor back in my college days so that was like a reunion of sorts. They had a female vocalist that would bring the house down at 2am.Thanks for all your posts!! When I retired I once again took up playing this stuff on the Roland V-accordion. Not much stuff in the discography of Accordion hot jass, Clifton Chenier out of New Orleans Zydeco come close on his Hohner. He just did not live that long.

jazzmanjoe100 Can get Chamarow;s groups on uTube. He teaches a youth big band jass group. Pipe in"That's Aplenty" They are all excellent including a 13 yr olde girl on Soprano Sax. Whenever you despair that this music will be lost among young people listen to her. But the real treat there is Juli Aymi on Clarinet. That is one of the best performances ever heard in this music and have heard a lot of them. Only person in my awareness of this level of this kind of music on clarinet is John Otto with Andy Schrumms groups.

Only vinyl record kept is with my brother in Sheboygan, Wisconsin. It is "Chicago and All That Jazz" which was recorded coming out of a TV Series hosted by Gary Moore by the same title. It was one of the last real showdowns of the olde Chicagoans. Krupa and Teagarden would soon be gone and Jimmy McPartland could no longer play Cornet. Bassist Haggar might still be going today but all the others are now lost to us including PeeWee Russell and Bud Freeman.
