2:29 Weird thing to mention but I love that the animators of this scene made the guns feel heavy. Its easy to think that Batou is strong enough to lift the gun without having to put any momentum behind it, and it'd probably be easier and faster on animation too. But he swings it upwards and catches it. And then the recoil of the gun messes with his aim a little and the barrel lifts a little from the force of shooting
@dars5229 Жыл бұрын
Great point. I find one of the biggest problems with modern CGI is there's no mass to the objects. People can subconsciously tell that an actor in front of a green screen is pretending to interact with something that has no genuine weight, and thus no real presence. Kinda crazy that by going that extra mile to give a prop a real sense of weight and mass, an animated film looks more "realistic" than a Hollywood blockbuster.

@gaspersb7 жыл бұрын
I like the Crab Claw dude thing with the arm because that's kind of something discussed in the manga: why full body cyborgs are inherently stronger than partial cyborgs. Namely, the big cyborg arm is only as strong as the joint. The joint includes where it attaches to your shoulder or whatever. Although in the manga it has chibi Batou lifting a huge weight, and his arm falling off, and the Major easily lifting it. Because she was full and he wasn't. Whereas this Batou is really, really cyborged. Maybe not 100 percent, but a LOT. Enough that he can laugh at point blank grenade explosions.

Batou's partner (name escapes me) is the only un-augmented human on the team if memory serves. Batou should be the 'dumb brawn' in traditional casting, but is a very intelligent person in his own right, he just revels in taking down his targets with emphasis on the down part. The major is similar, but more strategic than Batou's tactical. The characters in this series can be pretty deep at times. I have to find time to catch up after the SAC series.

As DaJuno says, his name is Togusa but he IS augmented, he does have a cyborg-brain like most people also do (while very common in setting there are plenty of people that still lack any cybernetics whatsoever)...he's just a former detective and lacks the others hardcore military hardware.

That's weird. In the version I have, Togusa says "I thought you were going to avoid shooting," and Batou replies "I did...for as long as possible." I find that way funnier than "I tried, I swear!"

Also, after he fights Crab Man, Batou criticizes his kick, saying something like "Flashy moves like that don't work in a real fight"

@@mortified0 There were two dubs, one that was technically closer to the original script and this one. I only know cause I have a DVD with both dubs (along with the original Japanese audio), that being said, on a personal note, I prefer this one.

Japanese content with guns seems to have a precision that American media lacks. It seems ironic until you realize that half of America *wants* to be ignorant about guns, while the Japanese generally have no strong feelings either way and are just keen on having accurate depictions of whatever they do.

@@bacondropped From what I understand, just pulling out their gun requires a cop to fill out multiple forms. The two of them probably had to basically write an equivalent amount to The Hobbit, to explain the massacre. 15 pages worth of that, would be explaining why they showed up with a belt fed LMG in the first place. If Hot Fuzz has taught us anything about cops, is that it involves obscene amounts of paperwork. Actual cops like Hot Fuzz is BECAUSE it actually shows them doing tedious police procedure and paperwork. More accurate to being a cop than Lethal Weapon.

I mean iirc they can download any skills necessary to minimize malfunctions, and I'd bet that by this point in the future someone designed a more robust version. In the modern world they're useful, but when one person can move and use it at the same time there's more incentive to make the weapon reliable.
