Togusa: Profusely tells Batou to promise him not to do any shooting Batou: Continually gives answers that do not include the exact phrase “I won’t shoot anyone”

Batou was faced with a giant enemy crab, but he struck its weak point for massive damage.

2:29 Weird thing to mention but I love that the animators of this scene made the guns feel heavy. Its easy to think that Batou is strong enough to lift the gun without having to put any momentum behind it, and it'd probably be easier and faster on animation too. But he swings it upwards and catches it. And then the recoil of the gun messes with his aim a little and the barrel lifts a little from the force of shooting

I think I preferred the comic's line. "That wasn't your wife and daughter, those were the angels of death."

I like the Crab Claw dude thing with the arm because that's kind of something discussed in the manga: why full body cyborgs are inherently stronger than partial cyborgs. Namely, the big cyborg arm is only as strong as the joint. The joint includes where it attaches to your shoulder or whatever. Although in the manga it has chibi Batou lifting a huge weight, and his arm falling off, and the Major easily lifting it. Because she was full and he wasn't. Whereas this Batou is really, really cyborged. Maybe not 100 percent, but a LOT. Enough that he can laugh at point blank grenade explosions.

I think Batou can fuck up the Avengers

The gun and trunk talking scene at the beginning reminds me of pulp fiction for some reason

I love how intimidating Batou is, even to his allies - except with the Major where it's obvious they're old friends, but with him easily sliding into the subordinate role because of her superior skills and rank.

1:58 Its funny how that one yakuza with the large-caliber revolver grunted because of the massive recoil. He probably just got it because he thought giant revolver are cool, never firing it before and never knew how uncomfortable it is to shoot those things. If he survives this he'll definitely gonna get another gun.

Togusa is fantastic. I always love his perspective in this. I love that he was mostly normal. More so because of how much the cyber systems are intertiwned him being natural gave him an interesting edge. it didnt' always come up though. Sometimes I wish they had had a scene where everyones vision was fubard due to it and togusa took the target out

My late mom totally had a thing for Batou. I can see why.

With the risk of vision being hacked, I can’t imagine how anyone who believes violence might come into their lives would sign up for/leave such an augmentation in their brain.

Batou knew Togusa could hold his own (Togusa's true cop instincts is what got him in section 9), that's why he let him come.

Batou, an armored, virtually un-killable battle cyborg: “I’ll go first” Togusa, a regular human: “I’ll go first, we need to shoehorn a scene about the deepness and fragility of human mortality into this film somehow”

Batou tried so hard to avoid shooting "as much as possible" but he just couldnt.... ¡¡¡YEAH RIGHT!!!

Did they rotoscope? The animation looks too lifelike at times.

Batou's partner (name escapes me) is the only un-augmented human on the team if memory serves. Batou should be the 'dumb brawn' in traditional casting, but is a very intelligent person in his own right, he just revels in taking down his targets with emphasis on the down part. The major is similar, but more strategic than Batou's tactical. The characters in this series can be pretty deep at times. I have to find time to catch up after the SAC series.

This is why I love Ghost in the Shell.

That's weird. In the version I have, Togusa says "I thought you were going to avoid shooting," and Batou replies "I did...for as long as possible." I find that way funnier than "I tried, I swear!"

I've seen this clip a million times and it never stops being awesome.
