Those 350s are great engines and it keeps with the way people have done budget builds for decades. I say get the engine and trans, bag it, and clear coat it!

$600 for motor & trans is a great deal but I leave it 3 on the tree it will bolt right up to the 350 plus you will have to change the rear end if you put it automatic. Cuz it want be geared right

It's even got me motivated to get back on my F100 project. $600 is a great price for engine and tranny. That leaves ALOT of $room$ for building up both pieces. I still hate bags, but know its ultimately your truck.

Go with the 350 JD. I had one in my 1985 Chevy Short Box, and they are ALOT of fun and very reliable. I had a four barrel carb and headers on it. That thing sounded and performed beautiful.

Nice!! Once you learn about a carb and distributor you will see how easy it is... :-) A built 6 is nice. Pretty sure you can four barrel it. Anyone can throw a V8 into it.... :-) It's too cool with a 3 speed, a straight six when it runs nice. You will see how trucks were at one time but with a 6 that performs... :-) Great story you are making, regardless what you choose... Nice!!

Hey It's always a good idea to change the fuel pump on old vehicles. The diaphragm in the pump rots out and you lose fuel pressure, The engine usually dies after you start driving it, Especially when you drive it up a hill.

Do it but make sure that truck at least gets disc brakes put on the front if you're going to put your family in it I know that old worn-out 350 probably don't make more than a couple hundred horsepower but just for the sake of keeping your family safe do a disc brake swap in the front at least

Hey man, I just picked up a 65 C10 and a 350 to go in it. Definitely a fun project, 350 sbc is the way to go, fits right in w/ factory mounts. I paid $200 for the motor loose and not running but turned over and looks solid. $600 for the engine/trans running in car is good, keep it simple and swap it right in. You might find one cheaper but as you know, once you get going on a mystery engine you might be wasting your time like the straight 6.

Just go ahead and get a 383ci stroker crate engine and be done with old parts problems lol

Okay yea that's a good engine 350v8 and good idea but first what I would do is check for spark and fuel again and more to that carb because I don't think your engine in that truck has a blown headgasket because any engine that has a blown head or gasket will still run but will over heat or have chocolate milky color in the oil and it will burn white smoke the whole time that it's running . And that truck isn't doing any of that for what I've seen I honestly think u probably lost spark that's why it isn't running now or the carb on it still isn't adjusted properly .🛠

If you just drop the 350 only in and leave the manual transmission, it would make things a lot easier. Did that with a '70 Nova. Took out the 6 and dropped in a V8. Ran great. I say don't bag it. Keep the suspension. At least just drop in the 8 only and see how you like it.

If its having a problem makeing it up the hill it could be a clutch that needs to be replaced or rebuild the trans and the straight 6

Hey bud as I own one of these trucks myself I speak from experience before you bag it and before you do anything with the engine swap look up 47 to 72 Chevy trucks. Com join The Message Board it's free you will get a ton of information from very knowledgeable people and the one thing I want to pass down to you right now that's very important you need to address before doing anything else is change out the brake system do not put your family or yourself behind the wheel of that truck without changing over to a dual Bowl brake system you don't have to be all fancy with power brakes and disc brakes if you don't want to but you do want to change it to a dual Bowl brake reservoir the stock one sad to say is a single Bowl Reservoir and the problem with that is is when your brake system has a leak your brakes will fail you instantly and you will not be able to stop your pedal will go to the floor you'll have lost all your fluid and you'll have no way of stopping the truck because all four brakes run off of 1 Bowl when you empty that out you have nothing it's the first thing that everybody changes in these trucks I highly suggest you do the same before putting yourself or your family in danger it's cheap after you're done with that then go on to your engine swap that is my recommendation for you I'm the guy who told you about leaving the wing nut on the carburetor stud I'm only trying to help and not be a jerk just so you know my other recommendation is always make the wife happy don't try to do things behind her back I don't know if you were joking or not but if she's adamant about not bagging it the don't bag it.. you can always do a static drop instead of bags which is also much cheaper and rides Just As Nice providing you get the right parts as in drop spindles and such which they do make and are a ton cheaper than bags still gives you that nice lowered look

Have you checked the fuel pressure as well as spark it doesn’t sound like it’s the motor it might be but I would check fuel pressure first.

Check the points and the accerator pump on the c10.

Been watching for awhile n honestly it's a nice project but from what I been seeing is you knowledge of vehicles is limited . If you can't fix a single barrel carb or work on an easy motor like a inline six I wouldn't swap to a V8 . I would tinker with what you got for a while until you learn more . Just my 2 cents but you do have a nice project n I'll keep watching n good luck with it .

Forget the “budget build”, just LS Swap it already

A bad coil will start when cold and will fail when the engine warms up. THEN it will fail completely. If your straight 6 is a 292 the motor mounts will not straight across from each other and your sidepans will be taller than the 250. The 292 has comparable horsepower to the 350 and more torque.

Definitely check compression.

Definitely go with 350 /350 turbo you will have to find a driveshaft shop to make you a new driveshaft but it will be the easiest swap for the truck

Just discovered your c10 build videos and was really hoping you fixed the 6. I guess not.

If you can learn to drive with three pedals, I would leave the three speed in it. Take that trany that is above your skill level and have a shop put new bearings, syncros and if a gear is real bad then look at finding a good three speed as the rear end is geared for a standard already. That bellhousing, flywheel, everything will bolt directly to the three fifty. Everything that is good about the chevy is in front of you. I don't know if the rear end is a posi or not cause it is not the high end model of its year. I would guess it is a ten bolt which is a light duty rear gear rear end and will break very easy. No big power burns or it will spit shit on the ground. It would be sweet if it had the leaf spring rear gear rear end as baging is easier on them but with coils doable, just need a better rear end sway bar system as it is jello in the back until you do. I know the bags are going on and you gave your sweetie the check from youtube so she would give in.. thats okay, shes playing her part. I would go the three speed cause everything is on the column and the little ones can't knock it into reverse or park. If you wind up doing the automatic, you can use the lever for the two-three shift pattern and you can count down the first one is reverse, second click is neutral, third click is drive, forth click second gear if its a turbo three fifty.... it will mirror what the dash of the donor is. Who wants a woosie tranie other than automatic's shift faster than you can without locking it in two gears which is toal distruction of trany at that point and its unrebuildable. If you went muncie m22 then you would need a credit check cause your making payments for a while. Worth every penny but wow are they spendy. The m21 which is its cousin is good and the floor shifter with the floor pan cut out will set you back probably two thou after labor but your no torch man when your having trouble figuring out battery cables. No insult as you have to learn somewhere but not on your driver... good luck as your going to need it
