I have a 98 Jeep Grand Cherokee 6 cyl. After a mechanic broke a wheel speed sensor, the ABS dash light came on and the brakes acted funny. They replaced the sensor twice and the third time the ABS light came on, they said the ABS Module was bad and they wanted over $1000 to replace it. I bought a rebuilt one from an ebay seller for $80 and it worked perfectly. I watched a few KZfaq videos showing the repairs to the module and since I was a retired electronics technician, I opened the defective module and repaired it in under 30 minutes. Bad solder connections were the only problem. The hardest part was opening the sealed module and then resealing it.

yeah, my 2000 chevy Silverado was close to $1000 15 years ago. ABS light came on while on a trip to Southern California in the desert. Took it to a dealer and wasn't sure if they were taking advantage of an out of stater but after some checking it was what they cost back then.

First module that could go bad was in the Seventies with electronic ignition. Now we have lots of modules. As the video first started I'm thinking a module issue (just guessing). But your tip on bigger pins is right on with power and ground. In a perfect world you have known good modules laying around. It takes a couple of years to figure out common module failures like Ford's old TFI modules. Good work as always !

The scope is such a beautiful tool for these types of diags. I got my MicSig (just a starter for now; it's what I could afford!) about six months ago and in no small thanks to you I'm leaning a lot more of how to use it. Found a blower motor that would intermittently speed up when hitting bumps in a Cheevy with only 34k miles. Without the amp clamp to catch the power spike and the psm signal being measured to prove it was internal to the motor not the control module it would have taken a lot of work to try and find a short or some other issue. With the scope I had proof and it did solve the problem and proved the new one no longer spiked. Not only was it easy but ensures warranty pays and we don't get a charge back! Same with a cam actuator solenoid. Signal is good and solenoid it outside the range. No circuit tests needed. The digital visual proof that comm is there while the malfunction is there eliminates a tedious GM procedure on testing the part and circuits. What i'm trying to say is thanks for being a great teacher and skilled mentor big guy!

Can you simply swap out a broken module with an identical used one without risking bricking anything or setting off some immobilizer or does it have to be programmed to my jeep? @frazerguest2864
@frazerguest2864 4 жыл бұрын
Gilles Thibault : The thing is, you kind of expect such woeful quality with FIAT, (Fix It Again Tomorrow), it’s the shit quality under Mercedes ownership that pisses me off the most. In the small town that I live in is a guy driving round in a 1989 Mercedes 190. Besides the faded paint and worn drivers seat, the car is like brand new. Still runs super smooth and has zero rust. I also see a 2007 Mercedes S-Class S500 driving around locally. Besides the bumpers, ever single panel is riddled with rust, as are most Mercedes around here approaching ten years old. That in itself is just one perfect example of Mercedes so-called ‘quality’. I’ll tell you what, I don’t see Fiats and Alfa Romeos rusting as badly as Mercedes. All manufacturers seem to be following the same path, (with the exception of Toyota). Accountants have taken over from Engineers. Cars are built to the absolute cheapest price. If a car manufacturer can sacrifice quality to save 1 cent per unit, then they will do. Cars used to be the second highest purchase a family would make, which is why most folk used to own a car for ten years before selling it on, (or scrapping it). Now with the advent of cheap finance / lease deals, cars have become a throwaway consumable item, built to last the duration of the warranty and not a day longer, (and sometimes not even the duration of the warranty, which often isn’t worth the paper it is written on). But such is the way a lot of our consumer driven society works. Just look at Apple products. Clever marketing aimed at the hard of thinking = sky high prices, yet the products are utter dog shit, often not fit for purpose and you’re lucky if they last two years before becoming nothing more than an expensive paperweight. I went into an engineering workshop a few weeks back. They had a lathe and a pillar drill in use that the firm had bought in the 1950’s. These pieces of equipment had been used every working day for nearly 70 years and were still going strong. I bet the same wouldn’t be possible if you bought new engineering equipment today. It would be scrap mental after ten years. Volvo Trucks is another great example. They used to be real tough workhorses. Now gearboxes and turbochargers costing several thousand pounds each are consumable service items.

Hi, great work, thank you. My question is about the wiring diagrams on the BOSCH tool. It that a separate subscription?? Im in Australia and having access to good wiring diagrams is a real problem. Does Bosch provide the wiring diagrams with their tool?

Michael Galvin He is probably accessing Mitchell/AllData/Identifix on the tool, separate service. I would run that stuff on my scanner, but we don’t have WiFi in the shop
