for all of u sitting on the fence .if your jeep overheats turn on your heater (the heater bypasses the thermostat) if that cools your jeep the cheap thermostat is not opening all the way dont install the 25 dollar replacement thermostat.

Whats it mean if you're heat no longer works? Started having issues over heating last week, and the heat in the jeep just stopped a few days ago. Does that mean it's not the thermostat?

Hey guys I’ve been dealing with an overheating issue on my 2012 JKU Rubicon. I replaced the thermostat twice with aftermarket units because Mopar units have been on back order for a year, and it would still run too hot climbing a hill or when accelerating. What I found is, the aftermarket units are not only junk but are assembled with the spring upside down! I noticed the old one in this video has the spring upside down also! Another thing with most aftermarket units is the struts the spring retainer is mounted on are too short! This reduces the amount the thermostat can open! I have however found an aftermarket on Amazon that is not junk, has the taller struts like the OEM, and is made with an aluminum housing! It’s sold under the name MILIPARTS. I hope this helps. Jimmy

My 2017 Jeep started overheating last year. Dealership replaced the thermostat. Over the last eight months have been back in multiple times where they have since replaced the radiator, and the thermostat three more times. Going back in yet again for the same problem. Waiting to see how much longer the engine will last before it warps the cylinder heads or worse. Amazed that the dealership can't resolve the issue. Consistently have temps in excess of 250 and as high as the 280's. Dealership seems to think its not a problem. Thankfully they keep covering everything under warranty.

I changed my thermostat about 4 to 5 months ago but I think its bad again because my radiator hose stayed cold as well...I believe it was a pretty cheap thermostat too.

So my Bumble Jeep is just staring to run a little hotter than usual and I'm starting to smell antifreeze a little. She's got 218k and I've never had any issues. I'm running an aluminum after market rad (4 core I think). Also hearing a squeal sometimes when cold. I've decided to go over the cooling system and have ordered all my parts from Rock Auto. It turns out they sell a high volume water pump. Coupled with the 4 core radiator and a 185 thermostat, I'm hoping it will run much cooler. Will also be replacing all of the regular wear items (hoses). Might as well go thru the complete system along with a good flush and new coolant. Thanks for sharing and I hope you find the tip on the "high volume" water pump helpful. God bless and stay well.

Thank you for the tips. I appreciate it. One thing I would do if I were you, I’d look further into the thermostat you’re gonna use. I assume this is on a jk. The 3.6L engine is designed to run around 200 degrees. I understand the desire to run a cooler thermostat, but that interferes with the efficiency of the engine. Everything in the jk is designed to run warmer than 185. The ecm, o2 sensors, pcm… will all be trying to get your Jeep up to its optimal temp. I’d use a thermostat temp designed for your engine.

Great job again Dale . I have one of those funnels and its one of the best things I have bought. It makes life so much easier on filling and burping cooling systems. Take care my friend and catch you on your next video.

What that means is a very thin amount of RTV spread all over the flat surface of the gasket. One very small dab and spread it over the gasket. Thin like 1/32” of RTV.

Can't remember the last time I bought a thermostat, I always boil them in vinegar and they work like new. Kinda dumb taking a torch to it while it's in a plastic housing. :D

Don’t use rtv to seal the thermostat! It seals just fine by itself with the 2 provided screws. I’ve done over 50 of these thermostat and water pumps with no leaks.

Took my Jeep to a mechanic. They tried to tell me it was my head gasket. I told them to replace the thermostat. They did. Three months later and my jeep is overheating again. Did my research and understand the aftermarket thermostats are crap. Took it back to the mechanic and told them to put a new thermostat in and I'll worry about putting in an OEM one later. Mechanics try telling to get the head gasket checked again and I had to debate them about changing the thermostat. The manager was pretty rude about it. Lo and behold it runs fine now

Then today drove it for 15 minutes and amd it overheated the pipe to the right was hot the cap wasnt. I put a new radiator in and thermostat a week ago no issues until last night need some advice on it. Was told could be a bad thermostat. I checked no smoke comimg out of exhaust or milky white oil just had oil changed last week any suggestions thanks so much.

two thoughts. one. I have all wise. added a bypass hole. any time I change a thermostat. the extra flow. keeps things flowing better. and. a trick I saw my father do. to his. Cadillac s. and. big cars. brand new even be for. they got home. he added a pint of machine oil to the cooling system. and most of his cars went 100000 miles be for traded in. he never had to replace hoses or water pumps. this is and interesting thought. and it have done the same.

Awesome video I subscribed to your channel. I have the same year 2012 JK 2 door. I have a quick question. I believe we are to use HOAT. However I had some work done at a shop and I actually had them flush the system and refill. They refilled with Mopar OAT coolant. I know you can not mix the two different types. My question to you is, should I leave the OAT in it and just top off with OAT? Or should I flush it my self and switch to the HOAT? Also do you think the OAT would hurt the engine cooling system? Thanks for all the great videos!!!

I have followed the exact steps you followed, including parking on an incline. The jeep held about a gallon and a half of coolant. The jeep runs over normal temp while sitting and then it overheats every time you reach speeds above 50 miles an hour. The air temp outside is 72 degrees. Any ideas?
