Jeep Wagoneer Mechanical Review

Here’s a look under the hood and underneath the Jeep Wagoneer!
The Jeep Wagoneer is a full sized body on frame SUV based on the RAM 1500 chassis. It features V8 (and inline 6 turbo charged) engines, an 8 speed automatic transmission, 4WD with a low gear transfer case and double wishbone front suspension, multi-link rear suspension.
In this video we will take a detailed look at the mechanicals under the hood: such as the engine, cooling systems, braking systems and general maintenance; under the vehicle: suspension system, transmission, differentials, transfer case, fuel tank and exhaust; and behind the wheels: suspension and braking systems to see what’s inside and how it works!
Overall the Jeep Wagoneer has a very good layout under the hood with the V8 engine. Components are easy to service and change out should they fail. However, under the vehicle, there are a few questionable decisions such as the transmission pan layout and starter placement that aren’t as service- friendly.
The vehicle in this video is a 2022 Jeep Wagoneer Series 2 4WD with the 5.7L V8 engine.

Absolutely love these reviews that focus on all the important bits and not the typical "number of cupholders" that the vehicle has. I must say that the quality and assembly of this thing is way too janky and complicated. In no way does it inspire much confidence in terms of reliability and long term longevity. As always, excellent work!

Wow, I’m totally unimpressed! I thought these were really nice when they came out…But after seeing what’s underneath, I can confidently say that they made Jeeps better 20 years ago. The drain plug locations alone show the complete lack of engineering and planning. I really enjoy the toothbrush commentary, very funny!

Awesome review. Too bad this rolling turd had a boat load of issues. Already replaced a failed brake booster and master cylinder, which had less than 1000 miles on the meter. Our shop already replaced the entire harness from front to back on 2 of them that had electrical issues. We found a few wires that had lost continuity where part of the harness splits off, probably stress from stretching then snapping off. These had less than 2k miles on them.

The brakes! Yes, the brakes! I work for a rental car company so I get to drive a wide variety of vehicles including the Wagoneer and you nailed the brakes...they're not confidence inspiring at all. Edit: And that engine does not like cold weather from what I can tell. I got in one today that got a good cd soak in 10°F temps overnight and it was not happy. Took a few minutes to smooth out and quiet down a bit

@speedkar99

It works like noise cancellation. Vibration from the chassis is collected through sensors and emitted in 180* opposite wave form to counteract it.

Many engines still use iron block and aluminum heads. There is a thin head gasket between them so dissimilar metals isn't an issue.

"Stupid design" you say. It is indeed true! By working as a consultant for big companies in automotive, medtech etc industries I can only observe & confirm an increase of stupid designs, unfortunately. One of the reason is outsourcing. And I dont mean outsourcing of the machinery production or software, I mean outsourcing of the design engineering. Many engineers (mechanical, thermal, structural etc) in those, typically 3rd world/developing countries are underpaid, overloaded, not experienced and not motivated. Most of them are unlikely to even own such vehicle. Thus, the design suffers. But, contrary to these designs the consumers aren't stupid and thanks to your great reviews some automakers rushing with such crappy or/and unserviceable designs will disappear.
@speedkar99
@speedkar99 Жыл бұрын
You are right. When you outsource you lose touch with the vehicle design and purpose as they are designing and testing within their bubble.

Reminds me of a Navigator, pretty on the inside and out. But just the basics when it comes to engine and body mechanics design. Nothing like the German and Japanese luxury cars. Cadillac does the same kinda builds, no aerodynamics underneath, exposed electronics underneath, no heat shielding for the exhaust, the list goes on. Basically, most American luxury cars are just dolled up lesser class of vehicles from their sister companies. And not truly engineered from the ground up like other foreign car companies do, to separate their class of vehicles. IMO

2-Pot front brakes on a 6000lb heep sounds like a lawsuit waiting to happen, especially when you consider most passenger cars half its weight have 4-pots on the front.

excellent review Kar!! My money (someone else's money) would be on a Seqouia. that carry over exhaust pipe was definitely a flaw that was on purpose. probably don't want any dyer doing any tranny services on that ZF tranny "filter in pan" design😮‍💨. also, it maliciously extends the labor hours for the dealer to do the tranny service. hey that the car business. again, very decent review👌

@@speedkar99 You sure that's not just a front axle disconnect? Many 4x4s have a sliding collar that disconnects one of the front drive shafts so that the front ring gear and drive shaft do not spin when in 2wd (like manual locking hubs) to save fuel. Generally, an actual diff locker mechanism is located much closer to the ring gear

These days this kind of 4x4 are just fashion statements. The owners who do try to do serious off road will be calling to rescued or pulled out by real 4x4s, which are very few today. On that Wagoneer the exhaust pipe so close to the plastic trans-pan without even a heatshield will be sure to cause failures.

I purchased the Series 2 Wagoneer. I am satisfied with my Truck. It's peppy, stylish and has plenty of room for the family. Also it was more cost-effective over the competition. PS Don't let It's size fool you. The 5.7 has great power and passing ability. Ask the driver who was trying to muscle in on the right. He looked real silly and had to get in line like he should have....
@speedkar99
@speedkar99 Жыл бұрын
The 5.7 wasn't slow. It was adequate for the size of the vehicle. I wouldn't call it cost effective for a family... Unless you need that towing capability. Same goes for suburban, Tahoe or expedition.

@@speedkar99 Well I must ask. Do you own a Wagoneer? Also I gave praise to Mopar for the 5.7's power. Furthermore you're comparing the Wagoneer to the Tahoe and Expedition. They are in a different class. You might want to compare it to the Navigator or the Escalade. If you can buy either of these SUV's with 1. Leather 2. Sunroof 3. Alpine system 4. Running boards 5. Tow package ETC. For under $75,000. You may want to make that purchase. I'd love to see that. Thanks for sharing...
