Been asked for a while to do a video on the rear brake jobs on the Wrangler, Cherokee, Liberty, pretty much most Jeep vehicles - so here it is. I was laughing at Will as he sweat buckets LOL Found something unexpected when we get it apart ....

First thing I did on my 89 wrangler was a complete rear brake job. One of the wheel cylinders blue, so I opted to replace everything. I had all the necessary tools for working on my 65 Mustang in the past. The specialty pliers definitely come in handy.

I am a believer of doing one side and using the other as a reference. One time on a car my son bought the other side wasn't right. I recommend you always use a manual as well.

Great video, always do my own stuff and it's nice to see tips and tricks from the veterans. Why did you have to adjust them, wouldn't pressing the brake adjust them?
@RedneckGarage
@RedneckGarage 7 жыл бұрын
+Patrick Thomson good question 😀 The brakes adjust only when going in reverse and hit the brakes. That pulls the cable which pulls up on the adjuster. It doesn't adjust going forward.

On that Jeep, what yr was that? Did you ever have to replace any wheel bearings on the rear of it? If so do you have a video on it? I'm looking for a video that has the older style rear drum brakes like my 93' Jeep Grand Cherokee doing the wheel bearings, etc...

I have 2004 Wrangler Sahara and was changing rear brakes and cylinder. When trying to disconnect the brake line the line was moving with the fitting. So the way to salve this simple problem was very simple after I figured what to do. Get a torch and heat the fitting. Do not heat it too much, just hot. Then put your wrench on it and it will turn like butter. Let me know...!

How can I diagnose my 89 YJ parking brake pedal? The rear cables rusted out and locked the drums. I bought all new cables and complete drum brake assembly parts but want make sure there’s nothing wrong with the pedal itself.

I just dont both rear brakes on my 95 jeep wrangler... replaced everything... in the kits I got two thin round washers and two u shaped washers .... looked for them when I took everything apart and I did not see them... what are they for and where do they go? thanks in advance for the reply
@Ap-nv1hk
@Ap-nv1hk 5 жыл бұрын
shots2 the u shaped ones are for the parking brake lever that has a small pin that goes in the hole and the u clip/washer goes under the lip of that pin

Yeah.. I know silly question. I am currently driving a 02 jeep wrangler with tires with some tread left. I have just changed the front brake pads but I wanted to know one thing. When brakes are applied, brakes on all four tires should activate? I am currently having an issue. When I try to come to a stop on wet road. My front two tires lock but I don't feel the rear engage. Might be the pads?

yea all four should engage... the front first rear second ... reason the nose dips when you hit the brakes

Hey Dave, worth mentioning to your viewers, that no oil and grease should be used anywhere near brake shoes, drums or callipers... cause oil and grease are not friends with the brake system....
@RedneckGarage

True - you can use brake clean to spray down the shoes should any get on them also.

ALL drum brakes are basically the same. Process is the same as well. The only thing he didn't show is how to re-mount the springs. Those things are tight and need to be put on correctly. A majorly important step completely overlooked.
