Awesome vid! The beauty of the Range Rover is that on the way home from off roading you can keep up with serious sports cars then take it to a fancy restaurant in the city with the massaging seats on. They do everything so well. Fellow L494 owner here!

If they could get their reliability to toyota standards this suv would be the best car no cap
@DrivenHard
@DrivenHard 3 жыл бұрын
@@somebody6122 but then it wouldnt be a Range Rover product at all. They are all about being at the cutting edge of the car tech game as one of their selling points, Toyota isn't. They want the tried and tested, slow to advance model with = reliability you can't argue with. I'd say Porsche is the only one who has kinda come the closet to being bullet proof and cutting edge with their tech, but I don't have enough experience with Porsche yet, os that will have to wait lol

@@DrivenHard agreed. They are such fantastic cars it’s worth a minor hiccup here or there. And let’s be honest, with a warranty who really cares about the reliability. Anyone can buy a Toyota but they’re just super unexciting imo.

The Defender was never based on the Wrangler. The original Land Rover prototype in 1948 called Centresteer was assembled on a Willys MB chassis. And the MB served as the inspiration. But from the outset the Land Rover was far more utility and agriculture based. The first coil sprung Land Rover was introduced in 1983/4 which stayed in production (with evolutionary changes) through to 2016. And was rebranded as a “Defender” in 1990 to distinguish it from the then new Discovery line of vehicles. The Wrangler while an evolution of the CJ didn’t actually come into existence until 1987 and didn’t gain coil suspension until 1996. Some 12-13 years after Land Rover. Not knocking either brand, as I’m. Huge fan of both! Nice video btw 👍😁

As long as you don’t hit the aluminum panels body work is dirty cheap. The lower front bumpers (3 part section) I’ve beat those up and got them repaired multiple times. Kinda a pain but those are what hit the dirt first. No prep work. Just out and rock and roll 😎

Nice video. I’ve been trying to get different tires for mine but with the brembo brakes you can’t find any smaller wheels to get good off roading tires. You can do larger tires but would need to lift. Been researching extensively on it. In addition to off-roading, I hear it’s a great at towing. I’m towing a 6k pound RV cross country this month with mine, so It makes sense for me to keep the brembo brakes. They’re going to have to make some all-terrain tires for 21 inch wheels. Its maximum towing weight is 7700 lbs (f150 is apparently 6k pounds). This truck/sports car is highly capable.
@DrivenHard
@DrivenHard 3 жыл бұрын
You can fit 20s without issues and there are lots of options for A/T at that size. Only Audi and LR use 21s primarily for their vehicles so tire makers won't bother making proper off road tries for them

You often quite rightly mention, how important low range is. As a future suggestion, it would be good to see you tackle some technical obstacles with any setting other than low, and then with it, just to compare the difference, and to see at what point clever traction control (terrain response 2) reaches its limit?
@DrivenHard
@DrivenHard 3 жыл бұрын
I could do some videos like that for sure it's a good idea. The most beneficial part of using Low Range is CONTROL. You have so much more control over the vehicle at low speeds which helps prevent damange by hitting things or going to fast. Also when you are in high range and going slowly over obstacles, the car will tell you switch into Low Range mode, if you ignore it it will warn you that you could heat up the gear box too quickly since it's being overworked. It's all about protecting itself

Pop some A/T tires onto the Rover for the next time. It'll do everything the Rubicons do ;-) On the Supercharged there's a specific 19" rim that fits, but there are 20" options available too. We've had a couple of Rovers and they're definitely underrated in North America.

These were my winter tires. But yes all seasons would have done the same. Climbing the the snowy parts might have been a little bit more dramatic though

I used to be really against Landy's. I'm a big luxury and Jaguar fan. But Landy's always made me laugh and think of some rap video. I always liked how they looked, but could never get over the rap star image. That was until my friend from up North got a range Rover I believe it's a 2010 Range Rover. He really loves that car and where he lives it's the middle of nowhere and there's a lot of mud and snow during the end of the winter months. So there's a lot of thaw, frozen mud and snow. One time he was on a video chat with me and I was joking about him driving a Land Rover. And he goes and he drives for about 10 minutes away from his house to this trail that leads off into the woods. It's got frozen layer of mud under some fresh snow. And it was somewhat deep, he poked a stick in it. I want to say several inches of mud and maybe a rocky layer underneath. I told him there's no way on his stock Landy, with moderate offroad tires that he would be able to conquer that mudhole. I watched him do it with ease, didn't slam on the gas and floor it like a jeep driver. The car handled it on its own and he had mud up some of the sides. I never doubted them since! Always wanted one. Especially a Gen 2 Defender. Anyways here's a cool fact about Land Rover as a company. I used to know a guy who was on the inside of the company and he said. That none of the ads on the website for Land Rover are fake. For example none of it is CGI fake stuff or fake backgrounds. They really go out on these trails and take photos of Land rovers doing these things. They actually got in trouble a little while back because they were taking pictures for the new 2022 Land Rover Defender and they went on a trail. When they posted the ad all these animal rights groups went crazy about Land Rover going and "trampling up" all these trails and running over little critters. The same goes for Jeep and they very much stand by their products. I don't hate either brand and I'm not knocking either. I like them both equally

Finally someone who takes a Range Rover to do offroad (what it's actually made for) instead of just showing off in cities!! Great video! Are you using stock tires? Jeep Rubicon is made purely for offroading, but the RRS is not ridiculous in offroad either. There is even one point where it surpasses the Rubicon, and that is its max wading depth of 900mm (best in class of all stock cars).

100% Alex. Yes stock tires, although these were my winter tires so they do grip a little bit better then the all seasons.
