The thermostat in your jeep is an amazing little device, that helps maintain the optimal temperature for your engine. In this video, I explore how the car thermostat works, and I use the example on a Jeep Wrangler YJ.

So curious question if the thermostat was installed the wrong way would it cause the engine to run hot ?

what thermostat do you recommend to use?, I get the same 195 but some people recommend to use a 180

Yeah, 195 is the way to go. Some people try 180 for various reasons, but the engine is designed to perform best at 195. I stick with what the engineers recommend. They're smarter than me. Ha!

I used a 180° one. My engine would run on the warm side 215°-225° if I remember right. I have the 2.4L powertech though.

Did the 180 bring the temp down a bit? or did you notice any difference? At those temps the 195 should be open anyway, guess the 180 would open earlier. What'd ya see?

Yes it did, though it does hit 210ish on really hot days.

how do i know if my thermostat is bad, or if its my coolant temp sensor. it runs hot

Hummm... Yeah, I didn't do a good job explaining that. I think I'll make a video on that very topic soon. I'll mention you asked in the video ;)

JeepSolid so I believe for some reason that I have the incorrect coolant temp sensor (I have the i4). I think the one in mine right now is from a CJ7, the guy before me must have bought it, and causing it to be the wrong one had to cut the wire that goes to the guage because it didn’t have the right connector
