In my opinion, these mid 70's albums like this one and dark side of moon have never been surpassed sonically. Analog recordings just sounds so much warmer than digital.
@Lemmy3029410 ай бұрын
Yeah. Todays digital music doesn’t even come close sonically. Analog is just superior

Jeff could destroy anyone onstage but always let his band's talent shine. Always the gentleman and a beast. This guy got better and better, so glad you started this. He has plenty of outstanding material to chose from, I recommend all of it. Live stuff is the best. Quick fact, he's a guitar legend in his 40's and suddenly decided to drop the pick and finger pick for the rest of his life.

No one sounds like Beck, no one can play like Beck. He was totally unique. That’s why they say there can’t be a Jeff Beck tribute concert because no one can play his parts! It’s not the notes, it’s the sound of the notes the touch and feel he had the personality… Thank God for us, it was recorded so we can hear it…

His two records, Wired and Blow By Blow are considered to be industry standards in this genre against which all else is measured. Jeff Beck passed on Jan 10, 2023... RIP. Wired sold 1.1 million and Blow by Blow sold 1.09 million copies. He certainly etched himself into rock-n-roll history with two inductions, the first in 1992 as a member of the yardbirds and the second time on his own in 2009. He also won 8 Grammy Awards. Thank God he left us his music when he passed! Great reaction guys, TY. Every song on those two records are worthy of reaction.

Jeff Beck is the only guitarist I've seen that used EVERY part of his guitars to bring his exact thoughts of what the guitar should sound like , his guitars actually became a part of him when he was in the nirvana of sounds. Really enjoy your reactions to the excellent music alot of us discovered 50-60 years ago. Keep on TRUCKIN !!

This is vinyl worthy! I remember being a young rocker about tenth grade and an older drummer buddy said you should check this out. I remember thinking this wasn't quite my cup of tea but I instantly took to Jeff Beck from that point on and it was the gateway album for my love of Fusion music.

@Blue-qr7qe10 ай бұрын
The videos of the live Ronnie Scott's shows are so high quality - the venue was small enough, like a nightclub, so the camera work was really intimate. And the audio was so fine. Those videos are just the best reveal of JB's playing. Tal Wilkenfeld and Vinnie Colaiuta were too good to be true !!!

Wired and There and Back were the first CD's I bought, in the transition from vinyl to CD's. Beck had a vicious angry tone in the mid 70's sometimes, but with a lot of touch and subtlety still, not sure anyone else had quite achieved something similar back then. Not sure really if anyone's ever really matched Beck for his combination of touch, subtly, and aggressiveness. Wired is full of great songs. I like Pork Pie Hat best, but this one's great too. Led Boots is great. Really like Play with Me and Love is Green, pretty much of all of them. It's always fun to watch you enjoy this stuff.

Beck has always been in my top-five best guitar players, but let's talk about the rest of the band that made this one of the best albums ever made: Max Middleton - Hohner clavinet, Fender Rhodes electric piano; Jan Hammer - synthesizer; Wilbur Bascomb - bass; Narada Michael Walden - drums and author of half the songs on the album, nevertheless. Hit it out of the park on this one. One GREAT track to the next.

WOW! Never got into Beck when I was young back in the 70’s (Except for his album Beck Ola) but “discovered” him just the past couple of years. What a genius he was. And so generous to fellow musicians. I love his work with bassist Tal Wilkenfeld and drummer Vinnie Caliauta as well.
@Blue-qr7qe10 ай бұрын
@helenespaulding7562 Agree - i've been praying they'll react to half a dozen (at least) songs from the Live at Ronnie Scott's videos where both Tal and Vinnie are strongly featured and where Jeff's guitar sorcery can be seen in action. I really hope they'll treat us all to some of that.

Love Jeff Beck! Great reaction and comments. Your mention of his bass player having his time in the limelight in Beck's songs reminds me of the live in Paris video of Lou Reed's Sweet Jane - it starts with Pradesh John doing a bass groove that one commenter said 'could pull a truck out of the mud all by itself". Then legendary guitarist Steve Hunter joins in, before Reed starts the song. The original album recording of Sweet Jane needs to be heard separately as it has a dueling solo guitar intro by 2 legendary session guitarists. Both versions are great. 😁

I'm thinking the first half of that solo was Jan Hammer with a distorted keyboard/synth with a pitch-bend wheel. If you find his solo (?) album and listen to him play Manic Depression, you'll see what I mean. You can hardly tell it's not a guitar.

He was playing his guitar through a ring modulator on the first solo to get the sound you were talking about, Max Middleton played the clavinette, the last solo was Jan Hammer (formerly with the Mahavishnu Orchestra) on the mini-moog, and playing drums and composing this and 3 other songs on the album was Narada MichaelWalden (also from the Mahavishnu Orchestra - That was the group which influenced the fusion direction of Beck's music).
