Jeff Gordon and Rusty Wallace had a handful of heated moments at Bristol Motor Speedway over the years. The two sit down with host Alex Weaver to discuss those races in 1997 and 2002, why their relationship was so icy at the time and how they are today.

Gordon was The Master at “The Bump and Run.” If he came up on someone slower than him, and they wouldn’t get out of the way, he’d just give ‘em a little nudge (not wrecking them), then go by...

As a Rusty Wallace fan from '85 till the day he hung up his helmet. I remember those 2 bump n run races very well & I didn't like Jeff at the time but looking back on it now I understand he did what he had to do to win those races & I now like him & have respect for Jeff & his amazing career & I am glad they are good friends now😁 Since Rusty retired I no longer have a fav driver & don't watch Nascar like I used to live & breathe it pulling for Rusty, but I must say I really enjoyed this little segment that brought back so many good memories for me☺️ p.s. I will ALWAYS be a Rusty Wallace FAN😁

Yeah but... In 1998 Rusty got his retaliation against Gordon in the 2nd race at Richmond that year. Going into turn 1, he turned Gordon, and he nosed it into the turn 1 wall. I was a Dale Earnhardt fan and I was jumping up and down and so excited when Rusty turned Gordon at Richmond.

@@strokeraceventura2550 i agree. Rusty is 1,000,000% underrated. One of the best pure racers ever born. I was on vacation with my family, staying at my aunt's house when the 2002 race aired. That race went pretty late (plus we were on Atlantic Canada time, an hour ahead), so everyone except me and my li'l brother had gone to bed before the end. My brother was a Ward Burton fan; I was/am a Jeff Gordon fan. Man, even though we had to be quiet, it was probably the best race ever for us. I mean, Ward got wrecked, but him making a scene was awesome. And then Jeff won at the very end. And my bro and I did our tradition of jumping, hands up, when Jeff crossed the finish line. Small problem though - my aunt's ceilings are low, and I ended up breaking her ceiling light. She still remembers. XD

I still have my fire cap from the 2002 Pepsi 400 at Daytona, where he went from starting position 38th to 10th in like 1 lap, he finished 2nd and had a damn good shot at winning but they ran like the last 5-7 laps under caution and never gave him a shot. I'd rather him be 2nd than ending up wrecked, but would have been cool for him to have a shot at the win, everyone was angry and throwing shit on the track as they finished lap 160 under caution
@sevendst19

I watched that 1997 race and really analyzed the final lap or 2, and what screwed up Rusty was Jimmy Spencer who had just come out of the pits and didn't get down out of the way of the leaders and broke Rustys momentum coming off turn 2 on the last lap and because he had to brake or let off or whatever to avoid running into Spencer, if you watch it you can see it and you can tell it screwed him up going down the back straightaway, and got him out of sync and Gordon got right up on him as a result and Gordon had all his momentum so he just ran into him in turns 3-4 and nudged him out of the way. I don't know if he brings this up in this interview though. Just started listening. Just rewatched it again and Rusty actually had a pretty nice gap going into the white flag but Spencer screwed him up coming off turn 2 so that's what did him in
