Hey there,
In this video I take a look at the socket fanlight. The socket fan light is an as seen in TV product that allows you to screw a fan into an outlet so you can instantly have a ceiling fan with a light.

Hey Jeff. Thanks for the great video!! I had some other questions. Was there an option to reverse the direction of the fan? If the light burnt out was there a way to replace it?
@DoremiFasolatido1979
@DoremiFasolatido1979 Жыл бұрын
@@doughankins3996 I doubt it can be reversed. The motor has to spin opposite the direction of the motion to screw it into the socket, or the torque from the fan could loosen it and cause the fan to fall out of the socket. As it is, it should instead tighten into the socket as a result. And since the blades cannot be flipped, the flow can't be reversed by doing so, either. Which is unfortunate, because an option to flip the blades to draw air up instead would be good. That said, it's possible to perhaps put this into the top of a tall floor lamp. In which case it could then pull air upward instead of blowing it downward. But, it would be a bit janky to do so. And he said in the video that there's no way to replace the LEDs inside it. Which, for me is the real problem. 50 bucks, and it's worthless once the LEDs go out? Either they'd best be some decades-long bulbs, or there'd better be a hell of a warranty. If that were the case, then it might actually be worth it.

Cute little gadget. It seems to preform good for it’s compact size. At under 2 pounds it shouldn’t rip poorly mounted ceiling boxes loose. this is a nice idea but For $50 you could get a basic ceiling fan that would last for years have better build quality and you wouldn’t have to deal with losing the remote.. also this product is most likely cheaply made and would only last a year or so considering the fan and light have no ventilation ports a fan definitely needs ventilation for it’s motor . I think it's a really cool product especially if your renting because you can just unscrew it and go to the next place. The $50 price seems a little high but NO complicated installation is required or wiring needed to add a fan to a room - some people do NOT want to try to install a full ceiling fan due to the wiring. The other thing missing from this product is the reverse feature that every standard ceiling fan offers for winter time air circulation! Still overall I think it's a good product based on this video.

I have just the room in mind where I could use one of these, but I already know (based on your demonstration) that the hum coming from the fan at the faster settings would be somewhat distracting. I'm also wondering how/if it affects other lights that may be in the room, such as a lamp. Will other lighting in the room become noticeably dimmer when this is turned on?

Hi Jeff the fan blades have a sharp pitch to them so they don't have to be so big they pull more air. 👍🏻✨ actually it is a good fan for the price it cost $50 because it's well-built and it'll last a long time so it actually is worth the $50

I wonder if they make something like this for houses that don't have overhead light sockets. Some houses actually don't have overhead lighting and you have to use lamps in every room. It would have to have a mounting hook to attach it to the ceiling and a very long cord to plug it into a wall outlet. Does anything like that exist?

Perfect for Bathroom, laundry room, walk in closet. Keep in mind a regular 16" fan is already $25+, so for this including a remote, lighting the room brightly , saving you floor space, saving you can installation, allowing a fan in a tough install location, etc, $50 I think is fair, and Jeff even says he's surprised with both the light and air this produces.

I saw a different model similar to this fan at Menards, and was considering it. Im hesitating at buying one, because the unit i saw, requires a fixture that can support 300 watts or higher, as it requires a fixture that is equivalent to 300 watts. For traditional incandescent light bulbs, the highest i saw for regular fixtures was a 3 way bulb, with 150 watts at the highest setting. 2 of my floor lamps are 3 way fixtues, and support at the highest setting, 150 watts. Thats what is preventing me from buying one right now.
@rupe53
@rupe53 Жыл бұрын
that 150 watt rating is for heat that an old fashion bulb might create. The wiring behind that socket will handle quite a bit more and the circuit will be at least 15 amps.
@cptrush3671

also the weight rating of the socket matters most. if its well built it should be fine. what i seen on the box it says it requires a E26 socket.

They had something similar back in the late 80's called a socket fan. Was just a small three bladed fan that screwed into a light socket just like this fan. And it was only $5.00. Nice to see this come back with a light, but the price is way too high for what it is. I think you are right, about $25 - $30 is a fair price. Not $50- $60

I think a person with a 3D printer would make a killing printing much larger blades; assuming you don’t overwhelm the motor. Also in a work room or home gym room would be a huge blessing.
@obits3

I think the big issue is overwhelming the socket. This is likely only possible because LEDs have left unused capacity in sockets designed for more energy intensive light bulbs.
@HunterShows
@HunterShows Жыл бұрын
@@obits3 There should be no limit besides your circuit load, which in a home is typically 1500W. _Obviously_ disregarding heat from a light or something, there's a reason they tell you not to put more than a 60W bulb in there. And this tiny thing is what 27 watts?

I wish I had seen this before I installed the fanlight in my kitchen. It would have been the perfect size. And it looks like it produces the light level I was looking for. What I put in is still inadequate. I have fanlights in every room. The next time one goes out, this will be my choice. I would pay $50 for this. It provides all the functionality I need, and you can't beat the ease of installation. A single socket is much easier to install than a traditional fanlight.

I have 2 of them screwed into the ceiling in my garage. It has That type of fixtures in it.. I could use them in my kitchen because my kitchen has recess lighting. The lights were actually brighter than I expected they would be. I have no electricity in my storage building so I got the bright idea of taking one of those outlets that will turn your wall socket into a screw in. Light bulb and put it on an extension cord. It actually worked for a little while if you can find a good made one. The one I bought was rather cheap and it fell apart and my fan hit the floor it still works but the blade was broke so i took the others off because it threw it off kilter if you don't and i use it for mainly light and a little air over. An area but it still works lessen learned the other 2. I got I just hung in my garage.. I can still use the light in it though so I can use it out in my shed so it is what it is 50 bucks is a little steep. I would like to see 2035 at the most. Over all I don't have any issues with it
